Coupla points - only offered for general info. I use a bit of Linseed oil in the shed - and a while ago I stumbled over a few details about it when researching various timber finishing subjects. Linseed oil (either raw or boiled) comes from the seed of the Flax plant: linky It is reasonably harmless if small amounts are consumed orally and once properly cured on a timber object it is fully "food safe" according to all leading health authorities - FDA and such. However, in times past I've come across reference about bad things that can happen if OILS are absorbed into the lungs - it can result in a condition referred to as "Lipid_pneumonia" Reference . I've no idea just how much oil one might need to inhale for it to become harmful but I understood that the general advice was to avoid any sort of oil when vaping. Hence the recomendation to avoid "essential oils" and similar. I do remember, when very young, my parents had an "oil burner" for menthol vapor when we were ill with colds and such. I do remember those being pulled from the market here as a result of similar alerts/alarms. Just comments for general info. Be interesting to see if the flax paper makes any meaningful difference to a wick. Yes I hear you about oil on the lungs and I know about this from past reading. I would think there is little oil left in the end fiber/paper product though and is probably why deemed safe as roll up papers. Not that smoking is safe though 🤔🙄😃

Paper making...uses caustic soda (lye) Not sure I would want to go there But, as far as I'm aware,it's thoroughly rinsed off in a later process, so I'm unsure whether or not that there'd be any residual in the finished product. But I don't know for sure Nicotine extraction also uses nasty chemicals (such as hydrocarbons/kerosene and other stuff).... which we also wouldn't want to vape, but in pharma-grade nicotine this is mostly removed.

Yes,it's rinsed...but to me it's still eeewww. And yep, extracting nic...we can only hope that the nic we use is properly made. I recon it's kind of like eating hot dogs...you really don't want to think about what's in them

You are correct - and it is recycled for later use. But even if trace amounts remained in the paper atmospheric CO2 would quickly convert it to sodium carbonate (washing soda). Sometimes a little knowledge can be a dangerous thing...

Oh dear Me thinks I'm getting out of my depth now and perhaps I shouldn't do it 😧 I would - iffn I could be bothered and I had the flax paper to hand. As pointed out earlier in the thread, the paper is made from the stalks, whilst the linseed oil comes from the plant's seed. As you said, the chances of much oil making it's way into the paper is likely pretty small, especially given the processing required to make the paper. As one who routinely inhales diesel fumes from my own car (not forgetting normal city smog/pollution), sawdust (a known type 1 carcinogen), VOCs (solvents/turps/varnishes) among other things (not forgetting all those decades of smoking whatever crap was in cigarettes) I'd try a vape thro flax paper without a moments second thought. Whilst I am no expert, it just seems to me unlikely to be a serious risk in the overall scheme of things.
