Once again we arrive at yon day on our "social calendar" when we are subjected to an early morning rude awakening of a mob of screaming, wailing and irate Octopuses, getting the Tartan Knickers torn off of them as hairy Heilenders punch the guts oot o' them in a bid to waken them up and play "Music"????
Lunchtime has come and the parade of the now wide awake Octopusies have passed, the dancers are dancing, the runners are running, the stick tossing He Men are heaving their sticks about and the sensible locals are supporting themselves along the counter of the Beer Tent.
And me????? Och ye'll no find me up there. Nae, I've got me deckchair set up in the garden with me ice cold drink at my side and a hot dog lying on my laps.
Peace, (almost) perfect peace.

Thank Gawd that is over and the village can return to Sleepy Hollow.
All the Tartan Nicker Wearing Octopuses are back in their boxes and are now travelling to some other poor location to annoy the hell out of there population.
It will take me about a Litre of E-Juice before I start preparing for the next Howling and Wailing skirl of the Pipes.

Must admit I'm not a fan of our national instrument lobeydosser , but I've been to a couple of the Rosneath games and a few years ago there was a guest Canadian marching band who gave the pipes a whole new dimension. Melodic and fast and nary a lament (short for lamentable I guess). And I was on my best behaviour and never visited the beer tent once .

Och well Laddie, if you are ever down this way again, drop me a PM.
I can guarantee there will be no Wailing Octopuses, but you will get a very warm welcome.

Hi striker42 The Missus and I used to do part-time work for a firm in Glasgow that ran "refreshment tents" at Highland Games, including the Cowal Games. At Cowal, the Missus ran the "Posh Bar" while muggins here ran the Practise Tent. The one for the Bands only. They had 5 Bars all in. On the main day, the practise bar got through 144 dozen cans of Lager and 144 dozen cans of Beer. The winning band on the day sent in their smallest Piper with the winning trophy and told us to fill it. It took 11 bottles of whisky. 10 minutes later he re-appeared ordering us to fill it again!!!!! As most Highland Games are held over one day, most refreshment tents are set up in the morning and shut down about teatime. Usually pretty hectic, but at least you get home after the event. With Cowal being a 2 day event and us sleeping overnight in the marques along with all the rest of the staff (barmen and waitresses) it was certainly an eye opener to us newly weds and our innocent sheltered lives!!!!! All this happened many years ago, but I would not have missed it for the world. A great bunch of people and the salt of the earth.

Brings back fond memories lobeydosser . The biggest challenge was staying sober enough on the first day to play on the second day.
