For the same reason as you.😀 I wach a lot of reviews on mods before I purchase. Some of them reviewers are very technical and they also say don't charge through USB. I'm sure vaping bad will be able to give you some info.

No big deal I suppose but I still question whether it's safe or not?

Whereas if I own a mod that takes a battery and has a usb socket then the battery goes in and never comes out until its worn out.... probably a year on?
Only in an emergency will I grab another fully charged battery and swap it out. Usb charging just suits my lifestyle

Always a curious one. In certain circles, charging via USB is considered unwise and only a short-term solution. In the real world, you can (I have) charged mods using the USB but there are things to consider. 1. USB ports break or get pushed in. I am now on 3 broken in the last few months... All Eleaf products. 2. Most people believe (I am one) that a proper charger simply has to do a better and safer job. 3. The more batteries, the more comments exist about un-balanced charging. Most of the time, I do my best to use a proper Li-ion charger. But, when I go away (quite often, although you wouldn't think it because I'm always posting on forums) I always charge using USB. That's why I now have too many broken/unusable USB slots. Put it this way... if you were going on holiday for a week or two, charge via USB - unless you don't have enough mods or pre-charged 18650s to see you through. I guess I am in thebishman camp about this. Topping up as I go along etc.

DNAs are fine to charge via USB, probably safer that a lot of chargers, but some especially non metal cases may get quite warm as the case acts as a heat sink. I have 6 Lipo DNA that can only charge in the mod only one ever had an issue and that was the USB side not the battery side. Though 18650 I tend to charge externally for convenience, I charged 11 18650s in under 3 hours this morning having 3 2 bay 2 A chargers.

If the 18650 etc batteries are easily removed, then I will always charge them using a proper charger, if I only have access to USB, then it depends on the mod, single 18650 OKAY, dual 18650 - some now have balanced charging for 2 batteries again OKAY, anything more than 2 then no way Jose, quite a few multi battery mods only allow upgrading the firmware through the USB anyway like the new GX2/4

as stated above more than one batt don't use the usb to charge unless its a dna or your sat next to it(some of the newer mods do have balanced charging and should be fine as well) if its only a single batt mod then usb should be fine stuffs has come on quite a bit on the safety side of charging batts in mods
so from wot yer listed your good to charge with the usb

I'm in the same camp as Pepperty. Very seldom do I use an external charger. The dual battery mods I own are either parallel, or series with balance charging. Squonkers aside, I wouldn't knowingly purchase a mod if it were not possible to charge it safely via USB. Another area where it's each to their own, if you are comfortable charging via USB carry on, if not, then it's an external charger.

Mods with inbuilt batteries have exactly the same charging method as ones that are removable and the batteries are the same too the only difference is they are soldered to the contacts. Nothing to panic about i charge my mods by USB all the time. The only time i don't use the onboard charger ever is if it's a multiple cell mod and it doesn't have a balance charging facility.

I treat all built in, single and parallel 18650 battery mods exactly the same. If the mod supports usb charging then I charge them via USB. I have done so for a long time (years) and never had an issue. In my mind they are no different to all those other electronic devices with built-in, non-removable lithium batteries - such as tablets, phones, torches, etc - where USB charging is the only available option and is perfectly fine.
SERIES battery mods - I've only one (a Cuboid). I'm not sure if it supports USB balanced charging or not (likely not), but I always charge those batteries externally in my 18650 charger (and rotate the battery's positions in the mod after each charge - maybe not necessary but it is suggested in some circles and it's no particular effort to do so when charging externally).
