In a mech I don't think it matters which way the battery is ? with the caveat you check them and stay battery safe. In a tube mod I do tend to put the positive where the vent holes are, usually at the bottom, but after reading the advice by Greg I'm not so sure.

When a battery vents it will vent from the weakest point (aka positive). Based on that it seems to make sense to put the positive where the vent holes are. As always battery safety first.
