The led light fires but as soon as I put a carto in...nothing, tried a whole host of cartos/atties (not LR or DC) and it will not fire or light up. Figured it might be the batteries so I ordered some new ones and tried again this morning. I noticed that although no light came on I could hear a whistling noise from the box itself, not the carto, on taking the back off I noticed the battery was very hot and I think I might have seen a little smoke Should I accept it's probably dead and bin it?

It sounds like a squashed atty connector.
Dont use it until its checcked out.
Is the negative spring collapsed?

I think what could have happened, is that you have screwed the carto, atty, etc, in too tight and split the little grommet that is around the atty pin.
This will cause a short, as a safety device the spring should collapse, which shuts down the device.

someone with more knowledge than me will be able to confirm, or not.
I had the same thing happen on 2 box mods of mine.
I contacted Garry Dibley and he put a new centre pin and replaced the spring

Aaah, yes there is, doesn't look like there's much wrong with it though.

Do you have an email address? I've tried contacting him on the email addy I had from last time I sent it off, one of the connectors had become 'unwelded' I think he could be ignoring me

If the battery was getting hot, its a sure fire way of knowing there a fault!
The spring is supposed to act like a fuse..... maybe its too highly rated and didnt do its job.
A bit like putting a 13 amp fuse in a plug when its supposed to be a 3 amp.

Arrggh, it's out of warranty I think...is it six or twelve months? Do you reckon he'd have a look at it at cost?

Garry is one of the nicest guys you`d ever want to meet!
Drop him an Email telling him your problem, maybe link to this thread, and he will likely tell you to just send it to him and he`ll sort it out for cost of return postage.
He`s going to the mini meet next saturday, if ya going, so could take it with you.

Just reread your last post.
Are you saying you bought it off him?
If so, he`ll definitely not charge you.....
