OK, I took Gordy's advice and got some Danish Oil and thought I'd try it out on the cheaper box I got. To be honest I wasn't expecting much as the wood didn't look that great and there was not much obvious grain, but after three coats of oil I was quite pleased with the results:



I chopped about the bit of foam I had and the result is a bit rough and ready but makes a reasonably snug home for a couple of my mods and associated bits:



Overall I was quite pleased with the results, considering how cheap it was.

I got it from B & Q dom - a careful choice based on due consideration of what was on offer and based on the fact that it was the cheapest!

Here is my second box - cost a fiver so nicer quality than the other one. Same Danish oil treatment.



Inside is more of the plant wrapping foam hacked about and what it was bought for, the GP PAPS stuff.
