I have been looking for ages for some reasonably priced boxes to keep mods and things in and found some yesterday in Cornwall - they arrived today! The vendor is called "boxy lady" and here is the selection: www.boxylady.co.uk/wooden-boxesAt those prices they are obviously not supreme examples of the cabinet makers art but the two I got are quite nice, especially BRHC3. There are several that are just the right sort of size. They are just plain wood so will need varnishing or something. I'd be interested in some ideas from the bright creative people on here on ways to finish them nicely - bearing in mind my extremely limited skills!

I wondered about that - what kind of oil or wax? A good way to get foam is having a wife who orders lots of plants and things - I have a growing collection LOL.

here is a good run down of whats available Dave clicky i've used both oil and wax and they are very easy to apply... much easier than varnish and in my view a much better finish. ok the finish may not be as hard wearing but then your box shouldn't take alot of battering

Nice find Dave..MRB3 kinda looks like something I can use.. does anyone know a good place to buy some foam type material to make an insert? What type of insert do you have in mind? the box i have is a cigar box and has soft foam formed into channels and works quite well if i could buy preformed channel foam that would be perfect

Try this: EthofoamI think there are people who can preform foam for you at your spec.. If it is store your mods then maybe something like this would also fit the bill? ClickyI think some women's vanity cases also are made with hardened foam so maybe that's another place you could find what you are looking for and so do gun accessories..

i'm sure Gordy if you have a local upholstery business that they would let you have some of their wastage for free that you could 'mod' yourself to fit
