So I bought some ribbon wire, 0.1x0.5 mm and notionally equivalent resistivity to 30AWG, which is what I usually prefer to make coils around 1.8Ohm for MTL vaping. Tried it out in a few attys so far and find that it is a bit easier to coil with than regular wire, though the finished coils are a bit longer than with round wire. They are a bit sturdier when wicking and rewicking - coils with round wire (especially at 30 AWG) often break during this process or get deformed and pop when dry burning. On the other hand, the tiny. tiny screws on some attys (e.g. KF3) make it tricky to trap the wire properly. Likewise, can't be used for rebuilding stock coils for clearos, they simply won't fit inside the coil head. For attys with fatter screw heads, like the NarDA or Doggy style RTA, trapping is not a problem. There is a definite improvement in vapour and flavour due to the increased area in contact with the wick, not earth shattering but noticeable. At £1.63 well worth a punt as a stocking filler when ordering from FT.

So I bought some ribbon wire, 0.1x0.5 mm and.... On the other hand, the tiny. tiny screws on some attys (e.g. KF3) make it tricky to trap the wire properly. ..... Memories.... A long time ago in my early rebuilding days, I fell for others talking up the benefits of flat/ribbon wire. Bought some and then struggled to capture the ribbon under the little screws on KFLs. Much, much agro - there may even have been some naughty words uttered at the time. I never returned to ribbon to see if it actually made a difference to a vape for me. Theory sorta suggests the extra surface area might help, but I can't say - I never got one going. Still got the roll there. Maybe one day I'll get back to it on a different atty.

TBH I didn't even try with my KF3 clones. Trapping round wire is hard enough. Get yerself a Doggy and try it with that.

had a play with ribbon wire way back when but the stuff they had then was way to thin to make a simple coil with did have a revisit of flat wire with ss and tbh it works rather well but still seems lacking compared to claptons so i claptoned some and wow its defo worth doing and easier than using 2 cores
