Yo! As I go away from time to time the problem of running out of data on my phone (when there's no wifi zones) is often cropping up. I have a basic monthly plan with only a small amount of data, being a grumpy cheesecake cheapskate. I may have found a solution. 1. Find an old phone. 2. Buy a 79p sim card from Homebargains. Spend £10 or even £20 topping it up and get a choice of data that lasts 30 days. Go with whatever provider offers the most data for your cash. You also get calls and texts. Go on, drag out that old brick. You know you want to. I'm going for 2gb for £10. Half the price of the "Three" sim in my old phone. Check it out. I bet Wilko do them too. Even Sainsburys! DISCLAIMER - Don't do this on some old 2G Nokia or Sony nonsense. You need a proper 3G or 4G phone. Beg, borrow or steal. Vive le deal!

I am away to Florida soon so i got a free PAYG sim from 3 which i intent to put £15 on it before i leave. For £15 it gives 3000mins, 3000txts (to any UK mobile number even if they are in the country you are in like the USA and not the UK) and 5gb of data to use at no extra charge. I thought it was not a bad deal tbh and will save me having to buy a burner phone when i am there and having to lug around two phones.
My own phone (sims) are with Giffgaff and i cannot fault them tbh.

We are so lucky in the EU, I was in Sweden a couple of weeks ago and you can't get a SIM without an Swedish National Number so the septic tanks were fecked no data or phone without big bucks, EU states had their home allowance & tariff. In the Ukraine I got a PAYG SIM with 20 GB for just under £2 last month, it's a minefield Virgin Mobile prices were outrageous, really really outrageous.

Very helpful 'team' - lots of great other ideas. Running with EE as planned but thanks to these suggestions there's more to explore for next time. "Together we are stronger, together we save some serious dosh - power to the AAEC'ers" - Dave, Saturday afternoon 2018.

In the Ukraine I got a PAYG SIM with 20 GB for just under £2 last month. Nice! Last time I went on my pilgrimage to Fasttech head office, EE wanted £1.60 a minute to phone the UK. So, I bought a China mobile sim card for about £5. Call cost to the UK? 4p a minute. I phoned almost everyone important in my phone book from China and surfed the internet with speeds of <80mbps. I never even used up £5 in the 6-day trip. Amazing what you can achieve if you don't mind some leg work.

I was surprised myself. 5gb will be more than enough for 2 weeks away on holiday and at £15 it's cheap enough. The last time i went i was stung for over £100!

If I get 5gb in August I can probably even watch youtube in the evenings after the pub.
