Agree with above. I pulse and glow them gently to preserve things and not create dangerous oxides 👍

I just donno about this. I'm a kanthal coil user. What worked the first time for me is what I use to this day. Never felt the need to explore coil builds or alternate metals further. Basically, if it ain't broke ... I do think my tanks seem to go off after a good while of use but I'm currently undecided if it's the coils or if it's residue juice "stewed" in the bottom of the tank on each refill or, perhaps, something else. Just that after a while something isn't right with the vape's flavour. A complete tear down, a full clean, re lube the o rings, new coil and so on puts things to right again. Maybe it is the coils - donno. Yep I certainly do dry burn my coils. And I'm none too gentle about it either. I know that's not recommended nor overly wise according to current conventional wisdom, but that's a choice I've made. I figure after a lifetime of smoking, various asbestos encounters, lots of bad diesel and petrol air fumes in the city commute, sawdust and various VOCs nowdays along with who knows what crap's been included in what I've eaten over the years, I'm happy enough to take my chances with the odds of possible metal issues off my coils and/or other possible risks associated with vaping.

I change my wicks when the atomiser tells me, IE when the demand for wattage increases. I heat the coil as hot as it will go and then let it cool naturally, this is done twice. The coil is then cleaned with an interdental brush and something like an eyelash brush. The coil is then heated once more and when cool re-wicked.

Juice throughput would be a better measure of how long they are lasting as some people get through a lot more tankful's in 6 weeks than others. Sensible post. Recoiling every 6 weeks hardly seems a burden though.

Yeah kanthal is about the strongest for heating at higher temperatures anyway so I wouldn't be too concerned.Back when I did use kanthal and followed some advice about dipping hot coils in water I did notice them degrade quicker and rust forming. I promptly stopped the water treatment and things got better. As for the tanks getting weird flavour, I've had that in the past myself. It baffled me for a while that I just couldn't get rid of a horrible funky taste/smell out of a tank. On investigation and stripping right back I found the orings to be very stinky. I tried a lot to wash the smell out and soaking them etc.... but to no avail. It was an old smok tfv4 come to think of it, and had affected the silly big white grommet they used in the top of the tank as well.

That's me. Pulse to red hot then immediately dunk under a steady trickle of cool tap water. Without the water dunk, I've had residue burned gunk (ash?) taint the next tank. Damn, that's nasty ! I did notice them degrade quicker and rust forming. I promptly stopped the water treatment and things got better. Yeah, they do look rusty and a bit ugly after a while, don't they? But I keep the water dunking up and rewind a new coil occasionally. Maybe not recommended, but I reckon it's still likely to be way less risky to me than all that smoking was.
