My dad did the same thing last year, but it was only 2 fingers, not 4. The good news is that he recovered the movement in them 100%.

He had just sharpened the blade.. and was having problems getting it to start, I was on the computer when he shouted "have you got a second" I went out and he asked me to pull the starter rope.

He was holding the spark plug to the mower trying to see if it was sparking, but everytime I pulled on the rope..the mower moved away from him..

The last time the mower moved..it was under compression and the blade spun just as he moved his hand..Result... I almost cost him his fingers.
