Dad’s birthday
Just been to me dads after a long training day today (government forced and unpaid “cpc” another story)
Went straight to my dad’s 70th birthday celebrations in the garden we grew up in
We are a fairly distant family always one of us never completing a full get together me for some 10 years then my brother for a few years then my sister split from her asshole of a husband and disappeared for the last year or so etc. etc.
Finally my brother made up with my dad, I was ok with dad but didn’t get on with eldest sis, and my youngest sis who disappeared last year turned up, in fact for the first time in god knows how long my dad had a complete set the beam on his face was amazing.
One of the good things was my Dad is a steam train buff and loves to build model steam engines from scratch (with templates of course and was given one of these some twenty years back and is still doing it but the icing on the cake for him was his birthday pressie a ride on the footplate and a real drive of a fully working steam train on the watercress line. Yes he is finally going to realise his dream to operate a fully functional passenger steam train.
What got a tear to my eye was the look on his face when all five of us “kids” were at his party in one go to present him with his lifelong dream to stand in his dads shoes for just one moment and it was a dream that was made real from a moment that just for this once we all got together to combine our presents and give this wonderful man his perfect birthday present.
It didn’t end there either as my dad then introduced us to “Mary” a long lost sister older than dad from my nans first marriage that had been “whisked away” to her grandmothers to be raised and never saw her sisters and brothers (my aunt and uncles some now departed)
Boy did she look like my long departed and loved Nan but even better she had a daughter who also came along to the party and we all met for the very first time
I am not normally a soppy old git but wanted to shout this one out for my young brother we were so dear to each other for so long and fell out
For my eldest sister for whom when we were kids we were real close but were so different when we grew up ,
For my youngest sister who through the last year has had such a tough time in her split from her family she felt she had to disappear
To my middle sister who I will always hold a spot for her for trying her best to keep us all together and for being the best sister ever,
They and I have made just this one thing for my dad possible today to make him cry with the joy of having his family around for his 70th birthday
Will it happen again?
I really sincerely hope so and will never ever forget this moment because he truly is one in a million and for once as a family we made his day.

Yup i am in there too unfortunately 2 of my sisters have already gone home when i took this and my dearest wife soozie was too ill to make it so I will leave it to you to guess which one is me bel and steve already know but i am real up on one tonight and am so proud of my dad

I am at the back with graysee my brother in law and bestest mate to the left (posing) the guy in black to the right is my younger brother, above my dad is my sister viv to the right of my dad is mary his long lost sister,
to the left is lan his wife (i guess it is step mother but we dont call her that) and above lan is my long lost cousing sara.
the rest are step sisters and respective husbands and their children (the favourites)
but although it seems a them and us I think we did him good today

Oh and the shed behind is where he used to go for a smoke withought anyone knowing but he is now a fully fledged "vaper"
