That doesn't surprise me, Macca. BP and their lackeys have been busy throughout the U.S., trying to get states and municipalities to ban or severely regulate e-cigs.
We have too many governments making laws here. Federal, State and city/towns, all with the right to make their own rules and regulations.

It was only a matter of time until they had the perfect excuse ... and they got it.

Yup, Anne. New York like many other states, rely on their cigarette tax income. The FDA's bogus report, is still an excuse to use, for those who would ban e-cigs. One guy puts the wrong batteries in his mod and it blows up and now e-cigs are bombs waiting to go off.
E-cigs get banned, people go back to smoking and try to quit using expensive and largely ineffective NRTs. The government and BP are very happy.

Exactly. We know NRT doesn't work, so people either go back to smoking or pay for more NRT, everyone's a winner, for them.

Rosenthal, huh? That figures, she anti e-cig.
Overall, that's good news, we don't want kids using e-cigs.

I think it is good news in one way. But it shouldn't have been necessary surely? Who would sell e-cigs to minors anyway?

Womble, one of the excuses that the anti e-cig characters use to try to ban e-cigs, is that they are marketed to children, in order to get them addicted to nicotine and then move on to cigarettes.
It's a pile of baloney, but they have managed to convince some communities that it's the truth.

What the bill might enable the State to do is shutdown the internet sales effectively killing most of the sales, simply because checks by internet vendors cannot guarantee that a minor is not buying their product.

Anyway, I thought the exploding one was down to some dodgy DIY modification to battery?

That seems unlikely since the same does not apply to other age restricted products such as alcohol or indeed tobacco.
