The above company is changing..for the better it would seem. Better sorting of letters/packets/parcels postpeople to have delivery trollies Changing to make their rounds more efficient. I look forward to this modernisation, should mean less packets.parcels going 'missing'. just hope we have a regular posties so i can get them to sign for me so they can just post thru letter box , I dislike waiting for the post for stuff needs to be signed for. My regular postie has already gone, he used to sign for me, but I was always the last on his round, now I get my post 9am instead of 2pm, way to go Royal Mail.

Don't hold your breath. Most of the modernisation was cost cutting to make efficiency savings. Next week they may decide your route is not as efficient as it could be and you'll be back to 2pm delivery.
One place I lived in Edinburgh we had a different postie for each delivery day so got the mail at different times each day. Turns out we were on a spare route which meant the posties took it in turn to do it on top of their own route. This was not due to a shortage of staff, this was the beginnings of the modernisation and they just didn't replace some posties when they left.

Have to agree with Verey Bring on this ~ lots of cost savings going on; as in all industries (to be fair) But what I have noticed is the sharp rise in postage rates for small packets. Anything over an inch thick and you really pay for it. On forums we have plenty of complaints on vendors postage charges, but it was only recently I sent out a little Jiffy bag that I realised how much postage has gone up! We are all paying for the improvements

I won't be holding my breath Phoenix....I've noticed no improvement lol. A friend of a friend sent my son a 21st birthday card, with a cheque, 3 days before his birthday....and he received it 18 days later I felt awful when it arrived, as we didn't know she had sent it, and had therefore made no reference to the fact it hadn't arrived, or thanked her, obviously...it's a terrible service, as far as I'm concerned

Most of the time I am happy with Royal Mail, but I did read recently that they are introducing a new system for signed for, if you are out, they are going to stop leaving cards and just leave it at a neighbours.
I dont like that idea at all, because how are you supposed to know that there has been a parcel, if your neighbour doesnt tell you, or goes away, or whatever. My postie says that you can opt out and tell them not to leave with a neighbour, which i will do, but the idea of abolishing cards through the door seems really a bad idea.

Where do I start? Over here we now have van sharing, not allowed to use your own car, two people to a round so it now takes even longer, start later rather than go in and sort your own mail for delivery to make it easier and more efficient. Computer modeled round routes and speeds, that doesn't take into account fences, garden lengths, walls or roads Weight limits on bags, push-bikes have been withdrawn, trolleys that are meant to be compulsory, but cant be left unattended So their modern efficient scheme, means, rounds take longer, the mail gets delivered later, more hours are required to deliver the same amount of mail (even though Royall Mail say there is a decline) Then there are the house to house mail-shots and leaflet drops, much more over-time. Example in working hours, Start 5-6am finish 11am-1pm maybe 2pm over Christmas, now - start at 7am, leave office at 10am, finish 3-4pm, which then means if you're not finished, you can got back, throw the mail back at them and the manager has to deliver it. Our estate actually got forgotten today, no one did it, not one drop of mail entered! ....oh and yes I have a family member who works as a postie, and she spends most of her time in arguments against the management and their computers, and cross with whoever newcomer she is partnered up with, as it can add hours on the round. Most postie's will state, it is not modern, nor is it efficient, it certainly doesn't benefit the postal workers, or the customers, it does give rise to better packet delivery - allegedly! oooo, the moans and groans I get about this This is only just the surface, there are many more deep routed problems that go off on daily basis, but, good news is that Royal Mail can now start charging for delivering the likes of TNT & UKMail and Fastpost - where as before, they had to do it for free There might be a few improvements yet - as for charges, Royal Mail is still the very best at what it does, and still remains one of the cheapest in Europe!

I get days where there are no deliveries on my street at all too, one of my real pet peeves though is junk mail from the postie, I get tons of it from local businesses but I don't appreciate it from royal mail, they shouldn't be putting anything through my door that doesn't have a stamp on it, worse still is when they put adverts through my door even when I don't have any normal post....

You can stop the junk that Royal Mail gets forced to shove through your door (it pays for the managers) by visiting this link www.royalmail.com/you-home/controlling-your-mail That has the details of how to stop it Make your postie happy it will They hate it, but, it is a very cheap form of advertising for local businesses, and then we get the council leaflets, and the government leaflets...........the posties really do hate it, extra weight, - an easier sort, but a more bulky slower round for them!

The only RM hate I have is the cost of postage , I can weigh a small packet it costs approx £2.50 , I can actually send it with a large letter stamp at 90p ... go figure
Other than that I think RM do a great job round here

I will be doing this, thanks Tim, I was tempted to put a sign on my door or something, but I'm a little too young to be turning into my Grandma

Please bear in mind that you have to do this every few years - I think it's every two years? Obviously RM think that we all move house every two years, grrrr.
