SMOKING? Well after spending time reading Annies thread "what made you start Vaping" After I finished reading I thought to myself, so what made me and the rest of us start smoking in the first place? It's nasty, it stinks and you don't get addicted to a cigarette straight away. So, many moons ago WHAT MADE US START SMOKING? I laugh at why I started! C'mon I passed the danger stage (Teenage years) without getting addicted to a fag, oh yes, my friends at School after lunch use to run to the sweet shop and buy the singles and puff away. I would take one puff for a joke, but I wouldn't continue, cos I loved my pure white teeth too much! Then I got married and was told by everyone that my hubby smoked too much! So, I tried to frighten him by telling him that if he didn't cut down I would start, I was hoping he would get worried in having to spend more money on ciggies as he would have too buy me some too, well he didn't care and started buying me packet cigarettes too To make matters worse, hubby's younger brother got married and his wife was a chain smoker and kept offering me one, the more you said no the more she would insist and go on and on until you gave in and had a fag. Now this was when I was 21 not 16 and I kick myself at the time for being an adult and thinking of others and not myself and getting myself into the disgusting world of smoking. So, what made you start smoking

I went through the school years of having a fag behind the bike sheds, and never got the habit, because I never inhaled and it was infrequent. Then at age 17, I broke my leg in a bike accident and started smoking properly in hospital - it was normal back then. If only it had been disallowed in hospitals I wouldn't have done it because it wouldn't have been available and I wouldn't have missed it. Things went downhill from there - a decade of ordinary fags, followed by three decades of rollups. Actually, for the majority of that time my habit wasn't all that bad - often as few as ten/day - it was only in the past five years or so that my consumption ramped up to 50/day. I blame the NHS

I started smoking, at 25 inside Ryan's Bar in St Paul's in the City on St Patricks night, that was my first night of trying a ciggie and it continued from then on, was also around the time my dad was dying of Cancer, think it was a motivating factor to start talk about stupid!!! I will always remember though, as it was one of my hugest mistakes, i hated smoking up until that point, just happy i have found vaping now

Think I was about 16 too. I'd dabbled before that at school with my friends trying to look all cool as you do, but I didn't really like it. Wasn't until I was 16, earning my own money and going out clubbing (yes I did that under-age) and smoking just became part of the habit.
I started smoking rollies about 10 years ago, as I simply couldn't afford to smoke ordinary fags anymore, didn't enter my head to quit alltogether mind, I still loved it!
I give up about 2 years ago, on a cig looky likey (bought from local discount shop- £8.00- bargain!!), but i only lasted 6 months before started up again on holiday.
Now I've given up again for ooo i think 4 months this time? Im now on an eGo-T, i like it. But the frightening thing is i do think it wouldn't take me THAT much to revert back to rollies, so far i've resisted the urge, fingers crossed I can continue to do so.
Great post dreams xx

I started at a very early age ( as I did with other certain things too.... ) & have only attempted to give it up once in all those years, which proved unsuccessful anyway......I've tried all the different ways to stop & I must say, vaping has been the only one that has worked ( 'ish )..............I've been under a lot of stress over the past 3 years, what with one thing & another......I moved back to the UK after 25 years away to a place that I am unfamiliar with, so have basically had to start all over again & have found it really difficult to get work etc..........added to that, I'm just getting over the 'Big C', it's all been a tad difficult & I still have 3 or 4 analogues a day because of it all...........Hopefully though, I will manage to kick it altogether at some stage.................

I think you're doing great Chris. 3 or 4 a day is a lot better I'm guessing than you did before. I have given up before once for over a year when I had DD and once for 3 months a couple of years ago, I am not very nice to be around when I'm giving up smoking usually but this time it's a breeze

I had just turned 16 and a boyfriend gave me a ciggie. I didn't even know he smoked. I said no thanks, but he insisted I try it. I remember it well, we were standing near a river and I nearly fell in, it made me feel so dizzy. Made me feel sick too. Why oh why didn't I chuck it in the river. Did anyone actually enjoy their first cigarette? When I look back and think about how that first fag made me feel, it should have been easy to give up smoking theoretically by remembering and hanging on to that feeling. Nicotine must be an incredibly powerful drug. Scary really.

I started at 15, hanging round in the streets with the bad kids after school.
