I doubt it...It's usually malicious spiders hacking into the account and inserting a line of code into every html file that redirects all requests to their website..So it's not a manual thing..
Their website will have malicious javascript that will compromise unprotected computers..I hope he has a daily backup of his website because finding this code and cleaning it is a right pain in the bum..
