In theory, all you have to do is wind a bit of wire around a bit of string or stainless steel.
How hard can it possibly be?
I spent hours with my first SS wick setup, but once you understand the principles and also accept that some days for no apparent reason other than witchcraft it's absolutely impossible to get it right, it's not that hard at all.
Reading and watching lots of tutorials, followed by practising and asking questions is the way forward.

he he ... where do you buy spare vamo buttons from ? Anyone would think some idiot out there had dropped his vamo to death ... I read somewhere today that soaking chrome in coke overnight removes chrome ... I was considering an experiment on the remains of my vamo in case someone was considering doing this ... you beat me to it I can't imagine anyone would be so silly as to drop their Vamo that many times. Can't report on coke, but sandpaper definitely works.

nice - is that with the chrome stripped from it ? it needs some random dented copper plates with rivets adding to it to get a real steampunk look Yeah, sanded it down last weekend. Still a bit scratched in parts but I'll get some discs for the drill to give it a better finish. Once I've stuck the new buttons (sanded to brass) and screen in from my kindly benefactor ( ) it should look quite nice. It actually has a dented 18650 extension where I dropped the bloody thing, but another kindly benefactor donated a spare she had. I'll have enough spares to build a new one soon with all the donations...

photo coming ... Robby I seriously scratched the top part of mine when I removed it. Not a problem since it was toast anyway but it's not as easy as that YouTube video ... The way this is, I can only really see it moving with some heat on the outer bit of tube, but it`s too close to the display plastic I got some locking pliers and padded the insides of the jaws with paper towels. Locked them really tight onto the top. I then had to hold the Vamo upside down with the handles of the pliers on the ground, and used a hammer to hit downwards on the pliers close to the jaws. A couple of blows loosened it, and then wiggled it off with the pliers. No damage done. Edit: Still needs a bit of work to finish it but the reason I took it apart was to give it a revamp...

It's a sad state of affairs when somebody is congratulated for deceiving and lying to his other half. Well played mate.

I love my Bolt, my first-ever mod.
Good and chunky, nice button, feels good in the hand and has a textured paint finish which means it is nice and 'grippy'.
Not much to it, but can take a Kick so you can use it at your preferred wattage.

Ash, if you're not doing anything with the buttons, can I put in a cheeky bid for them? Took mine apart at the weekend to sand it down and one of my o-rings is all disfigured, which explains why the button was sat further into the body than the other. I'll pay postage, obviously. Hi Moon - gimme a few days to get a plan together ... I'm pretty handy with a dremel and I've not given up hope of being able to reverse the buttons and line them up on the outside of the mod. Sounds ambitious but as mentioned on this thread, I am a modeller. With a template based on the vamo housing, I might be able to re-create the holes. Question will be how I mount the board in reverse mode and keep it and the buttons in place. If I can't swing it, they are yours ... Nice one. Worst case scenario is that I get another o ring, and I'm intrigued as to what you can make of the old one. I look forward to the pics.

My Penelope had a strong menthol odour even after boiling it for 5 mins, two rounds in the UC with a few drops of Washing up liquid and a few drops of white vinegar its as good as new. Now that would be perfect.

yep did that today. Bottles still whiffed a bit - might need longer or the process doesn't get rid of odour. Same here. I might well give it a go with a bit of washing up liquid to see if it's any better. This thing could save me a lot of time in washing stuff.

I don't know what effect it will have on thickening the water, but shouldn't you be thinning the VG with distilled water, rather than deionised?
