I thought I had settled on getting a Riva 1100 deluxe kit when they come back in stock at Vape Escape and then I saw this - smok tech bolt starter kit (510 mod) www.smokshop.com/products/smok-tech-bolt-starter-kitAs a newbie is this sensible kit or am I being silly? Will they take clearomisers or am I just techno-confused?

It will if they are 510 threaded which most are as far as I know. If they are ego threaded clearos you may need a 510 to ego adapter but they only cost a couple of quid.

I love my Bolt, my first-ever mod.
Good and chunky, nice button, feels good in the hand and has a textured paint finish which means it is nice and 'grippy'.
Not much to it, but can take a Kick so you can use it at your preferred wattage.

Bolt is not really any different to a Lavatube without VV (unless I've missed something) so it's just a "set voltage" unit unless you use a kick. It's not something I would go for, but I suppose the newer vapers on here (I include myself) haven't gone the down kick route as we've always had VV batt's and mods. Some of these mods are beautifully made and should go on for a long, long time. I don't know this one enough to comment. However, if I was in the mood for a plain "mod" I'd probably just get a bog standard joyetech tube and controller and 2 or 3 batteries. If I was after a full-sized VV/VW device, then a Vamo. As it is, I shan't get either as I have a CV1 on order.

Thanks for all your advice and opinions. It is really helpful for a newbie to be able to bounce their half-baked ideas around. In the end I decided that what I wanted was a basic robust workhorse, so I have ordered a Bolt.

Problem with the Bolt is if you want to use a skirted atomiser like the vision or kanger you'll need a EGO adapter. Please bear this in mind. Also it is not Variable Voltage. What it is good for is if you expect your device to get a lot of physical abuse it is very robust.

I knew it was not VV - hope I don't go there - well not in the next 6 months. Robustness was a criteria - I was a tonka toy kid, for those who remember them.

My first mod, back in March last year, was a Bolt and I still use it a lot. It can take a lot of chucking about and still works fine. I love the basic workhorse style of it. I would advise you to get the 510/Ego adapter thought Chrisss so you can use T3s and Stuff like that on it.
