I was so impressed with the VTTV show! Considering it was live, Dave and the ladies made it almost seamless. I have not seen a better programme about vaping - it had everything!! Mr Dorn, Cat and Sav should feel really proud - I reckon that show has taken VTTV to new heights - Congratulations Rusty

I left the SB at home,,,that is for internal use!!! (ooh errr!!!!!) It was a great night with the VTTV crew there as well as Mr Rogers (Snr and Jnr), Jackie from UKV, Paula from Vapourworld and other long time vapers. We were let down by the smokers BUT it was a wednesday with constant drizzle Big thanks to all that attended and I hope that everyone left satisfied or drunk!!! Rusty

I know Dave - I'll work on them I was speaking to GD on the pm'y type dooberywhatsits and he suggested that when VTTV goes out 'live', that we do the GD auctions and the vapers can bid for the LG1001 and the Original Little Cow from CHAT - I agree with that, so the VTTalk hour can mainly consist of stuff for the established vaper. I would like the 'other stuff' to be part of The Haze Hour or any future programmes that concentrate on the 'issue' of smoker to vaper and all that entails. We may still be 'p@ssing in the wind' as the gorgeous Jessica says, BUT NOW, we may have the wind in the reyt direction to stop us from being covered in it

Wednesday night at The Anglers should provide a really good bit of research for us all. The landlady Simone was a smoker, she allowed us (me) to 'vape' in the pub. Eventually, she started vaping, when NOT working only (a semi quitter). She has a bunch of regulars who like smoking and do not understand why other people would want to smoke inside anymore. She has a number of non or anti-smokers that cannot stand the sweet smell of the vapour!! I want to see REALITY in action on Wed - I hope that VTTV will concentrate on the smokers/non-smokers rather than the established vapers that are turning up to show their support. Hopefully there will be a common bond between all the people that turn up, and that is the social interaction and friendly banter/discussion that a REAL pub offers

I really like this thread - I tweeted and facebooked it!! This type of discussion really hits home with me. I am passionate about ecigs as a way of reducing the harm profile of nicotine users without losing the FUN!! Both my parents died from smoking related illnesses before they reached pensionable age (dad 54, mum 59) - I am not going to do that!! the only reason why?,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,ecigs My mission is to open the eyes of smokers to this alternative,,,not to preach to them. Look-a-likes are ESSENTIAL to enable this to happen,,,BUT they need to cost less than a pack of 10 fags or MOST smokers will not even entertain them!

I think we need to agree to disagree on this one Dave.
Looky-likeys are really important in interesting the smoker imho.

The less harmful bit was only really on the Dr Hilary Jones bit on Daybreak (the only National broadcast) - but it was mainly about circumventing the smoking ban which is my thing anyway TW had no sway at all on which bits they broadcasted, neither did we! We cannot determine how they report such things. I did speak to the Calendar bloke about the CAM-VIP nights where we are giving donated disposables to smokers BUT I doubt they will want to cover it on Wed night When ECCA is fully functional, I think that it should approach the media and give them the full story, without gimmicks or trying to sell anything but the concept. So far, all the media coverage has been generated by enthusiastic vendors, so they are unsurprisingly wary of the whole subject. I agree with you womble - the TW image is a worry to me and always has been, but I cannot deny the good work that Jason Cropper and his team are doing to get the exposure that ecigs need. I feel sorry for him - in a way - that the majority of people seen on those clips were not using his devices - instead, they were using very high end mods that only the most enthusiastic enthusiast would EVER use Rusty

Media exposure such as the stuff following the TW event, just increases the awareness of ecigs. It is not about winning people over, it is about planting a seed.
Smokers are very stubborn people - I know because I am one! If somebody preaches to me about something, I turn off or if they preach enough, I become anti what they are telling me. However, I am as guilty as anyone for preaching about ecigs!
The news reports were positive - they accepted that they can be used in public places legally and that they are very likely to be less harmful than cigarettes. If the smoker just got either part of that message, it is a success.
I know that the majority of smokers will just continue in their own merry way, smoking; thinking about when they can have their next fag, enjoying just a small number of the cigs they smoke, paying a fortune in taxes, stinking and so on. However for the few that have had enough of all of the above, these reports have subliminally informed them of something else they can try instead and they will give them a try eventually.
Rusty BTW - I now smoke the odd real cigarette after over 2 years of being smoke free. The reason is because I can and I enjoy all of them, not because I need to have them!

I don't think this is heated by any means. We need looky-likeys to get the smoker interested in the first place. If the smoker wants to not have any tobacco cigarettes at all, they will soon realise that the looky-likeys can be a bit of a pfaff and move on to something else that they then research more thoroughly. If on the other hand, they are just using ecigs to replace the cigs they cannot have for whatever reason, the looky-likeys work adequately enough. The final set of campers are those who want to cut down how much they smoke, or stop all together - the looky-likeys are fine for this purpose as well. When I first discovered ecigs, I thought that they would just be a better way of 'stopping' smoking than the NRT out there. They were inhalators with the missing 'smoke'. After using them for a while, I began to like them and threw the idea of stopping smoking in the bin along with my looky-likey. It is horses for courses but without the pit pony we call the looky-likey, no one would ever try and buy a thoroughbred Rusty

VTTV on the whole cater for the enthusiast market - nothing wrong with that. There are plenty of vendors out there who sell look-a-likeys and some of them are very good and would suit the average smoker as long as they had a PCC or something similar (as you state in your first post). Many, many thousands of esmokers (vapers) will only use cig-a-likes, BUT they are not the target audience of VTTV. The Electronic Cigarette Consumer Association (ECCA) will be the organisation to represent the WHOLE of the vaping community - and hopefully in future ECCA will be the first port of call for consumer based press and media attention. ECCA has its AGM at VapeFest on 22nd Oct where the full standing committee will be elected. If you are interested in reading more, please look at their website www.eccauk.org . Russell PS If you like pipes, I strongly recommend purchasing one from Mikrosoft - they work really well and they are affordable

My first ecig was the mini-pipe. I wanted something that resembled a REAL smoking device but I researched the stuff available at the time and realised that the batteries were the weak points. I went for the pipe because the batteries lasted longer on a single charge plus they were cheaper to replace.
The SD was the only real mod back then but I discounted it and the Janty Stick because they looked a bit 'druggyfied'!
Things have moved on in the last two years because of the enthusiasts, their 'mods' and general feedback. This clique of people have had their ideas used by the Chinese which have improved the kits they sell to the smoker/new user. In a way, it is similar to developments in top end motor sport eventually filtering down to the mass market of the family car. The majority benefit from the 'geekyness' of the few.
The £2 disposables that safercigs are trying to source for pubs are much much better than the starter kits of 2 years ago and we need to thank the enthusiasts and their desire for 'something better' - It is of a benefit to all of us!
