Very happy with my Vamo now I have the treads sorted. The only issue I have is that it is reluctant to power up. Sometimes when I screw in the bottom cap the led doesn't flick on and off and then it won't power up at all. When it does power up it won't start with just 5 clicks. Sometimes 1 click, wait a sec, then 5 clicks works, at other times it takes 2 or 3 sequences of 5 clicks to get it going. Once it's powered up it's fine until you power down. Any ideas?

Just got my discounted Bolt from ECW ... and in comparison to the UDT mod from vapegear is pretty brutal in terms of design and finish for a similar price and capability. It seriously needs some grease on the threads. Still, it works ok and I am now planning to sand the paint of it to reveal its bare bones The electrics are not as robust as the body. I knocked mine (not ECW) off my desk & now it's got a dodgy connection somewhere. I got a discounted Bombshell from ECW and it feels twice the weight of the Bolt. I will be testing out the electrics in due course. Sorry. That last post sounds more negative than I meant. I like the Bolt and the knobbly paintwork, and I have a second one that I bought on this forum with modded wiring and red knobbly paintwork and it works just great. I was just disappointed that my new black Bolt died so soon.

SS Vamo arrived this morning. All appears to be working except the threading on the 18650 extension tube is stuck at the head end - or at least it won't respond to gentle pressure. Can anyone suggest a way of unsticking it. I dont want to force it and bugger it on it's first day. Thanks for putting us on to this Robby. Chrisss, which joint are you talking about? You are not trying to undo the one just below the buttons are you? That is fixed and should not come apart. Not trying to teach you to suck eggs but the only part that unscrews is the first joint above the bottom cap. No. It was the first joint above the bottom cap. The thread had a burr on it. I think I've sorted it now

Have you managed to undo it yet chrisss? WD40 did the trick. The thread is a bit rough in one place but a smear of vaseline and working the tube on and off is making it smoother. Now I can measure atty resistance I'm going to have a crack at rebuilding next weekend.

Have you managed to undo it yet chrisss? Still at work Simon. When I get home I'm going to take all the bits off I can, stuff the inside with kitchen towel & cover the buttons, & then squit some WD40 on the thread from the outside & hopefully that will help loosen it a bit.

I have been using vaseline on body threads until the penny dropped that the body was supposed to be earthing the negative contact so I've ordered some of that noalox stuff Vaseline is absolutely fine, it`s been used in the forces for decades for exactly this kind of thing. I use it, wherever it applies pressure at the contact point, it will get pushed aside while still lubricating and preventing oxidation. Someone will no doubt contradict me here, but it is nit picking. Cool. The noalox was only £4.99 so it was not an expensive waste

SS will bind if its over tightened , there is a technical name for this its called "Galling", best to very lightly grease the threads with Vaseline and I mean lightly I have been using vaseline on body threads until the penny dropped that the body was supposed to be earthing the negative contact so I've ordered some of that noalox stuff

They can lock a bit, but you should be able to get it off okay with a bit more pressure, cant see you doing it any harm I dont think it would do any harm, but shouldnt really be necessary. Give it some welly Is it the SS one? SS is what I ordered, & it looks SS. I might test all the bits with a magnet later given the doubts expressed in earlier posts. To be honest I don't really care for the price so long as it all works.

I can lock mine up if I overtighten on purpose as I just did for a test but just give it some and it comes undone with a bit of force. WD40? Would this damage anything?

]I looked on ebay and was thoroughly confused If you scroll down the page I linked to you will see a picture explaining how to measure O rings - the two dimensions are the inner diameter and the cross section. Thanks dave. Missed that
