Your set up is fine you basically throwing money at something here for minimal gain the I7 isnt needed I say this from personal experience having went from a i5 3570k to a 3770k with no frame rate increase at all in games., id personally change the mobo if you think its on its way out (the likely hood of ram failure is tiny and they have a lifetime warrenty anyways also again anything over 8gb of ram is overkill unless you virtual machine) and get a better graphics card, also you can most likely use your existing OS, I'm aware they are linked to Motherboards but you can phone them and explain the situation and they have on 3 seperate occasions let me transfer it over to the new motherboard. Also the PSU will be fine they have circuit protection meaning if it does go bang it wont wipe out your PC. Also the newer series of CPU's run cooler then your current chip.

So to sum it up I would personally get a new case, a socket 1155 motherboard (z77) and a high end GPU this would give you the greater gains in terms of framerates and smoothness and also save you money. Then if you wished you could throw in a ssd 250gb+ id go for the evo version of the one you linked as in real world you wont notice the difference in speed for your games although ive found a 250 can easily handle OS and 7-10 games comfortably and delete and reinstall as and when needed.

However if you do want to spend your cash the setup you did is fine although id drop ram to 8gb, change the ssd to the 250gb evo and change the cooler to the h100i as its far superior, also I wouldnt bother with a new PSU and would try and transfer my OS over by phoning windows ( worst comes to worst you can use a un registered version for 60 days till you buy a new OS) for maximum gains youve got to really up the spend on the GPU im afraid as the 960 is a mid range at best GPU, Id personally be looking at a high clocked 970 or 980 as a minimum but these dont run cheap and you need to be aware the new series of AMD gpus are due to hit in June usually closely followed by NVidia's offerings.
