Had a breakthrough, of sorts, today - no I haven't discovered a frog-radar to save me from panicing about going upstairs - but I had a cig on the way home from work in the car, when I was lighting it I was asking myself why I was doing it - the riva was right there. After I'd finished the cig I said to myself - "I didn't actually enjoy that" - huge news - unheard of for me not to enjoy a ciggy.

Have to confess I find your mod a tad scary, despite the on/off mechanism :-)

Excellent response Tizerbelle. One thing I would point out is that the vapour is not just the steam from heated liquid, it is vapour produced from heating glycol (PG, VG etc.) as is the case with fog machines found in pubs, clubs, shows and the like. As the nicotine content is absorbed immediately, there is no evidence that the exhaled vapour contains anything harmful at all. It is the burning of tobacco and accompanying additives that is so harmful - there is no burning of tobacco associated with the e-cig; nicotine is a byproduct of Tobacco but is not a carcinogen. Fox Thanks Foxy, I shall bear all that in mind for future.

Thanks Jemima, that's one vote of confidence. I hope others feel the same way. I just read the article and kind of went off on one, it's not even what I was supposd to be on the site for but I couldn't ignore the apparent ignorance of the "legal" answers

Not sure if this is the right place for this thread but I was on a HR site today at work and came across a new discussion article about e-cigs and the workplace.
Basically the question asked was what the legal position was with e-cigs in the workplace and how should they (as a company) deal with it. Within the article responses were given by partners in 2 seperate employment law firms.
The first response was basically agree no apparent health and safety issues but other people might assume they were real cigarettes and so start smoking normal cigarettes on site. This solicitor recommended companies treat e-cigs in the same way as analogues - i.e. ban them.
The second reply referred to the definition of smoking in the health act 2006 and basically decided that e-cigs were probably covered by the act because they were smoking something "other than tobacco" and it was heated so it must have been lit in some way so it was probably illegal to use e-cigs.
So I decided to put my tuppence in and this is how I responded:
Granted the last paragraph is a played up a bit - we allowed e-cigs last Friday cos I asked and I'm the only smoker on site!
But did I do/write the right thing? What would you have said?

you did well to just have the one ciggy, think I'd of had abotu 5 lol Do you have a cat flap or anythign like that ? I used to find the occasional one in the cellar that came up through the drain but they were always tiny Nope no cat-flat and the cat isn't a hunter at all - it's all rather beneath him - can almost hear him say "you expect ME to go out and catch my own food? I think not. Now put that posh cat-food in the bowl quick-sharp slave or you will regret it"

Well after the saga of the missing / smoked unconsciously analogues yesterday I was, at half ten last night, feeling quite good again as I'd only smoked 3 all day. It was time for Big Dogs bed-time constitutional and i decided before we went out I would pop to the loo, so I go the the hall, switch the stair light on and then screeeeeaaaaaammmmm like a banshee as something hurls itself at me from the top of the stairs. No-one comes to my rescue, not the dog, not the cat, not even the neighbours (mind you they are rather elderly and deaf - bit like big dog really). Anyway, the heart stops trying to escape from my ribcage and I look at my attacker to discover it's a ruddy great frog. I have no idea how it got in the house (never mind how it got upstairs) nor where it came from. . So my 3 cigs became 4 as I reverted to the analogues to steady my nerves after I evicted the sodding thing. fuzzy, I always assumed analogues was used to distinguish the "old" style cigarette from the "modern" equivalent - a bit like we did with watches when digital watches came out - we started calling watches with clock-hands on analogue watches to distinguish them.

Lorraine, don't worry about not going a whole day only using your e-cig, it's not a competition and there's no rules about how quickly you should become totally digital, in fact theres no rule that even says you have to. Don't pressure yourself - not good for a smoker. Just enjoy the e-cig and see what happens.
