I know the thrust of this campaign is an attempt to overthrow the ban on snus, which I fully agree is a worthy goal, but I am a bit saddened that ecigs are pushed to a one sentence mention near the end of their media release. I will admit I know nothing about snus, but from what I have read, snus is similar to regular tobacco in that the nicotine content is constant. The nicotine need is satisfied in a safer manner, but the addiction continues. Vaping has one great advantage in my view in that the user has the ability to reduce their nicotine intake, should they wish, leading to a break in the addiction if that is what the user wants. There is choice. So while I applaud the campaign to allow the use of snus as a safer alternative, it is just that, an alternative to smoking. Vaping on the other hand is a means of ending the addiction as well as a safer alternative to smoking, depending on what the user wishes. Real choice. Good luck to them though. Something is better than nothing at the end of the day I suppose. Thank you for wishing us luck The NNA tries to advocate for a range of tobacco harm reduction products, so that smokers will have more chance of finding a choice that suits them. |

Statement from Professor Gerry Stimson, NNA chair:
NNA wins the right to challenge the snus ban, 26 January 2017
The High Court today decided that the legal challenge against the snus ban
can be referred to the European Court of Justice. Swedish Match brought
the challenge. The Court ruled that NNA can join the case. NNA is fighting
for the right of access to lower risk nicotine products.
