OK, so I'm going to prove how much of a flip flopper I am and go for it, I'm still trying to decide what to go for though, is it best to get a kit to start with? Also are Tesla any good?

The action (distance between the strings and fretboard) and pickups play a huge part in quality, high action is a nightmare for beginners, it trashes your fingers (although they will harden over time) and its harder to play. Pickups convert the string vibrations and as such the quality of these is very important to the sound you get out of it, unfortunately guitars like this can be pricey. There are other things as well but for me these are the main two. If you're just starting I wouldn't suggest going straight to expensive ones like Fender or Gibson though, both make good cheaper models under different names that can be very good but don't go for the lower priced of these as they're usually no more than a cheap and nasty Strat/SG copy.

Also I've heard quite a lot of positive and negative things about FastTech, positives seem to mainly be price and choice and the main negative seems to be things getting held up after shipping. Is the shipping thing a major problem to the point where things don't turn up, or is it just a case of having to wait ages for stuff to arrive?

I appear to have touched on a rather contentious issue I think I shall hold off on going for a mod for a bit (not too long though) just so I can learn more about them and get a little more equipment, I'm thinking a VTR for now, although I got a little confused about the whole VTR thing when I couldn't work out where the vector came into it, then was told it was just a name picked at random from a competition, I thought it might have something to do with maths vectors and couldn't work out why (yes, I can be too spoddy for my own good). I can be a little too good at jumping into something far too quick for my own good and I've had far too many electric shocks and things blow up on me (thankfully only at work), so I should have learned my lesson by now Would it be worth it, when I get one, to run it through a scope and diagnostic software so I can get a better idea of tolerances and whatnot, or is that just going a step too far?

I didn't realise it would be quite that involved, looks like I'm going to have to try and find all my old ohms law college work and get my work brain on the go

Hello everyone, I've been vaping for only 12 days now but I'm already obsessed with it and have been spending far too much looking at all the possibilities that are open to me with it all. At the moment I'm using a Vision Spinner II with a KangerTech Aerotank and a Vision Spinner with a Protank 2 as a backup but I've been looking into mechanical mods and was wondering if you could help me with the differences. So to start with it looks like it's basically a metal tube with changeable batteries (a basic straight voltage device/torch ) and from what I can make out the battery life depends on what sort of battery you use, so an 18350 won't last as long as an 18650 even though they are both 3.7v because the 18650 would have a higher mAH? There are no solder joints, display, buttons and counters on it so there's less chance of failure and when the battery does finally stop charging its cheaper to replace that rather than a whole encased unit. The Spinners maintain the voltage they are set to, whereas the voltage in a mechanical mod depletes as the battery loses charge? Protected or unprotected batteries? Does it depend on how they're being used? I'm also guessing they last longer as well. I don't even want to think about sub ohm malarky yet so that'll be for another time

@johanino managing quite easily with just vaping, although I've started looking at all the shiny I can buy and am finding it hard to resist, pipes are drawing me in

When your e-cigarette isn't in your hand, where does it live? Here or here
hijack I have to admit I felt a slight pang of jealousy when I saw that

Hi chykensa and thank you, I've had a quick look at the tutorial vids for that and thankfully it looks reasonably easy and I won't have to buy any extra tools for it I'm going to wait a little while before I start tinkering with things though, I don't want to exhaust all my options too early

@johanino Chrissie and Perpetua I'm afraid I'm too cheap to be spending any large amounts of money on extra equipment, I'm hoping to be able to machine a sleeve type of gubbins that'll just slip over the stuff I already have. Although a friend of mine tells me that the Spinner II looks like some sort of injecting device they use in Star Trek. Its only once I become really obsessed with it that I'll start to become ridiculous, although looking at some of the prices it'll take a bit of saving before I start all that icon_shoppingm For now it'll just be cheap alternatives

Thank you everyone, these places have far too much choice for me, I always find it hard not to go over the top when I start on something that can be modded the way these can. Sadly I'm already releasing my inner geek and thinking of ways to try and turn Lego figures into drip tips and ways to make the whole thing look like a lightsaber or sonic screwdriver

The main worry I have about different types of tip is if they leave an unpleasant taste (such as plasticy or rubbery), I suppose like most things with vaping it'll be trial and error but I don't mind experimenting

Thank you for the birthday wishes. I finished the last of my tobacco yesterday, I've been awake for 6 hours and still haven't felt the need to go out and get some more so I'm rather happy the results. I'm still getting used to smoking it but the transition seems to be nice and easy for me (so far). To start with I've put RY4 in one of them and menthol in the other but I did pop a bit of menthol in with the RY4 just as a bit of an experiment At the moment I'm looking into the whole recoil/rewick thing (are either of those the right word?), but I'm not going to rush into anything just yet. I do have a quick question though, I have a metal allergy so the mouthpieces that come with them aren't too great for me, does anyone know of anywhere that I can get new ones that are a different material, what materials would be best and do any them affect the taste?
