So good to hear from you Rainey & very pleased to hear your OH is getting on with his e-cig Do bear in mind though that some of these "cheap" offers are just to draw you in & the replacement parts are usually very expensive. Thanks, I understand that, but it's still working out much cheaper than smoking and much healthier all round, should he need new batteries etc they don't look too bad to replace. As I say he will probably move on at some stage but just taking one step at a time. It was quite a big thing for him to make the switch and was just comfortable going with something he had already tried. I think should it start to become unreliable he would now be happy to try one of the ones you have recommended.

I just wanted to pop back and say thanks for all the advice and help. OH was dead set on wanting the Skycig after trying it and liking it. I couldn't persuade him to go with the other options suggested. However, once Xmas was out the way and we had some cash I found a £30 discount code so managed to get the starter pack for £9.99 as it was already on offer at £39.99. This included the charging pack, 2 batteries and a cartridge of each flavour to try, tobacco, menthol, marlboro, cherry and vanilla. He was quite surprised that he like the cherry flavour the best as expected to want the tobacco.
Even for him, who hates fiddly things, it's very simple to use, you simply charge the box which can then recharge the battery up to 6 times before the box needs a recharge so if the battery dies he simply unscrews the cartridge and switches the battery, so there is always one charged up.
He may progress on to the other models further down the line, but for now I am very pleased to say he has been vaping for 3 weeks, with no desire at all for a traditional cigarette, no longer smells of smoke, I have nicknamed him my cherry air freshener, has already stopped coughing so much, and is saving us a fortune. He's gone from smoking about 20 a day (approx £6.30) to using one cartridge every 2 days and they are £7.99 for 5 cartridges. It's great!
As for the posts above about only people who wanting to quit switching to vaping, I don't agree. My OH wasn't planning on giving up, he had tried in the past and failed, he had accepted he would probably always be a smoker, but a colleague came in to work with an e-cig and he tried it and couldn't believe how good it was and wanted to try it for himself as he was sick of the rest of us nagging him. I don't think he even expected to want to use it all the time, but use it a home to keep us happy really, however that all changed very quickly, he say's e-cigs are the future of smoking. We kind of think of it as smoking without the smoke, it's keeping us all happy!

Thanks for all the help so far, at the moment he smokes Mayfair or if money is really tight roll ups, he often smokes about 20 a day, can be more quite a heavy smoker......unless I'm nagging him to cut down! lol

Thanks, how long does your battery last in the Riva? Looks like that is the most popular one, need to persuade him its substance over style! lol

Hello & welcome Rainey You are right, a skycig isn't brilliant. Would your OH mind using an e-cig that was more the size of a cigar? If so, then something like a Riva would be far better for him. Have a quick look at the pics & vids thread, to give you an idea of the different sizes it will also show you how they are refilled - allaboute-cigarettes.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=newmembers&thread=2349&page=1#74660As for the taste, any e-cig (apart from disposables) can be filled with any flavour juice. So you could buy your OH a few small sample bottles to begin with. Thanks for the speedy replies everyone, I think he likes the idea of it looking and 'lighting up' like a real cigarette but maybe that novelty would wear off. I will show him the clip and see what he thinks. I think in the long run it would be battery life and taste that would keep him using it.

I've had a little look around the site but wondering if someone could advise me or point me in the right direction as there is a lot of information on this board (which is great but quite baffling to a non smoker). Basically my OH has tried everything to give up smoking in the past, patches, gum, hypnosis but has always been unsuccessful. However a colleague recently purchased a Skycig pack and he tried it and really liked it and is now thinking about purchasing one. I was in Tesco the following day and purchased a disposable 10motives e-cig which he tried but couldn't stand the taste, said it was awful in comparison to the Skycig and normal cigarettes and couldn't use it. However, the Skycig reviews I have read don't seem that good, ie expensive, short battery life etc to other brands. But my dilemma is that he liked the taste and would use it, so am worried that if I buy a starter pack from another brand he may not like the taste and then not be able to use it. I would also add he is impatient, doesn't like fiddly things and is clumsy! So unless it's super easy I will be refilling/charging etc for him before/after work (which to me would be a small price to pay for smokeless rooms!). Any advice much appreciated. Thanks!
