I do it all the time with my kanger coils, mineral wicks, As long as the actual element is not burnt out they last forever. You can't burn the wick even with direct flame. Usually good with a soak in hot water and a rinse, otherwise the ultrasonic. The other advantage of mineral wicks is they dry very quickly. Once you've scorched juice into cotton it's either rewick or bin.

Vapemate would send me back to the smokes. (OK, so that was a cheap shot... ) Hang in there jamesrd , you'll be OK. Don't feel bad about the odd smoke, I'd probably do the same if I didn't have a tin of Nicotine 'stuff' - I use the Lozenges (for when I can't vape) and they work quite nicely. I hated patches and gum kind of burned my mouth. You should get a more reliable vendor though. I've had a lot of stuff from VM no problem at all two or three days usually. I once had to wait four.

I feel a bit cheeky here, only a member for a matter of days, but welcome to the forum. There are a lot of people here who know a lot of things.

Have you ever been distracted while smoking and with a mouthful of smoke done what I can only describe as mis-inhaled. That thing where it grabs your throat makes your eyes water and gives rise to an embarrassing coughing fit? Well that was my step to get over with vaping. Over the past couple of years that had been the reason for dismissal of vaping. Every time I tried it I found it harsh and intensely irritating and I smoked roll ups. I now realise the problem was my hesitation, my reticence to inhale something that I was not familiar with. Every time resulting in a mis inhale and a coughing fit. I came to a situation, in an airport with a baggage handlers strike, where I had no choice. It was either vape, I knew this action was pending hence buying the kit, or suffer withdrawal from nicotine. I went for it, the rest as they say is history. If you're going to try it, try it, don't hesitate don't half try it, it won't work. Go for it.
An illustration is a close friends wife, a smoker of over 50 years, I offered her a try of my device and the result was a mis inhale and a coughing fit over hesitancy was the problem. There are juices that I find harsh and unpleasant but tried with confidence they do not induce a coughing fit. If you want to try it try it with confidence. It won't kill you but if you can do it it will save you an awful lot of money, not to mention the health benefit.

A good question is how much is BAT going to screw out of the NHS for this device, and believe me it will be around 80-100 a month, maybe even more. Let's be mindful it isn't the NHS's money it's our's. Let us also be mindful that they are addicted to the revenue that smoking generates, some, variously estimated, at 6 to 8 billion pounds per annum to the exchequer, NET. That's NET! after factoring in the treatment of often erroneous effects on a smokers health.
As smoking goes down and vaping goes up the ongoing attempt to demonise vaping will increase, they have to demonise it to justify the tax they are going to raise on it. All for our own good you understand. The bottom line is if you want to stop smoking and you can afford to smoke you can afford to vape and them some. The NHS should be recommending vaping not paying for it, at worst it could offer a weeks supply for trial.
In my opinion it won't normalise vaping, it will be transmitted as a medical intervention to cure smokers of their evil habit. it's a further step to de-normalise smoking, when they've done that and it is ongoing they'll be coming after the vapers.

In answer to your question, Yes, I can shake down a mercury thermometer and, thanks to many years of using them multiple times a day at work, can shake the mercury down with one flick of the wrist! Beyond that, haven't needed to use that technique for any of my vaping but then I've only just started! You will at some point, gurgling and no vapour. A quick flick of the wrist and it's good to go again. I can see by your name you would have no trouble at all but there is a knack to it.

There's always the afterthought! I use kanger dual coils at 1.5 or 1.8 I get wick material coming out of the wicking holes but they still work OK, kanger should address this, it doesn't look good. I have tried the new VOCC, go to cotton it's better, coils, the small ones that fit aerotanks and T3Ds etc they're useless even after soaking overnight. They may work with very high PG but not with VG, even diluted at 15/20% with distilled water.

Can you shake down a mercury thermometer? There's the question. Being a newbie to all this and leaping straight into mixing I come across this problem often. It doesn't work, it's not atomising, it's flooded out! There are many published solutions that vary from disassembly and blowing out the coil to steeping in water or rinsing under the tap. The first attempt should be: remove the tank, remove the drip tip, place index finger over the tip hole and flick the tank as you would a thermometer. The idea, by centrifugal force, is to eject the excess fluid from the atomiser onto the finger, I'm sorry I missed a step, the finger over the drip tip connection should have a tissue, kitchen roll or the like placed over it to catch the outflow. This technique has returned functionality to my tanks in 99% of cases. As I say, Can you shake down a mercury thermometer, it's all in the wrist action. When this fails it's under the hot tap.
My son, a seasoned vaper of some three years, said his atomiser was done after ten days to a couple of weeks use. I said give it to me. I soaked it in boiling water for ten minutes and the rinsed under the hot tap for a couple of minutes, reinstalled and as good as new! They are the same as I use, kanger with mineral wicks, although for the purists they are not as good as cotton coils they are near indestructible, they may get gummed up with gelatinised fluid but they can be restored by soaking in boiling water and rinsing.
As I say I'm new to all this, when you burn a cotton wick it's done, it cannot be restored, you have to re wick it. With a mineral coil not so, nine times out of ten you can restore it. Sorry if I'm going over old ground.

Thanks for the welcomes, my current stock is from vapemate, no issues but it is in plastic @250ml. 29-99 for 250. I have decanted to 100 in glass for freezing. I bought my first evic mini on holiday in Spain, bought two more on my return. I can't vouch for it in lung hit mode or TC mode but in wattage mode it does all day on a charge, a fine piece for my uses. The supplied ego one tank in the kit isn't to my taste. I bought mod only from joyetech for around forty quid. In my limited experience it's a winner makes the ego pencils look stupid. I would recommend. I use the pencil egos for going out. If I set at 7.5 watts it's 7.5 watts all day long whereas with an ego stick every hit reduces the available wattage for the next one. I'm sure there are other similar mods available with similar characteristics. Sorry to sound like a joyetech employee. I'm not. Once the bank balance is restored I'm going to try pirate. I tend to think that a lot of peoples failures are down to the gear they buy, if you buy a cheap guitar you'll never be able to play it. I stumbled on the evic mini by accident and a first mod buy. I bought a couple of ego sticks to go on holiday with, there were forecasted delays due to strike action and I needed my nicotine fix. I found I was charging them 2 or 3 times a day. I bought the evic mini in Spain 110 euros!!!! winner, all day long and consistent results. If I'd stuck with egos I'd still be lighting up.

Hello all, I'm a fifty year+ smoker around 100gms per week of golden Virginia. Near 40 quid a week!! goodness knows how people afford two packs or more of tailor made ones a day. I have taken to vaping like a duck to water, why I didn't start sooner I don't know. Despite reading to the contrary on various threads in various blogs nicotine is seriously addictive, to me at least. I have been smoking tobacco from the age of 11 or 12. My body does not understand functioning without nicotine. I wish it could but it doesn't. I was diagnosed with throat cancer 8 years ago with a terminal, months not years, prognosis. I'm still here!
I mix at 12, my biggest hurdle has been my sensitivity to PG, The only PG in my mixes is the 10% in the flavourings. I seem to be able to tolerate that.
My kit, I have three, yes three, can't be caught short, EVIC minis, four kanger genitank megas. four ego batteries and eight T3Ds. I'm still in experimental mode, various mixes and various tanks. Hundreds of pounds have been spent but still in line with what I would have spent on tobacco.
I have 1250ml of vg 7.2 and 500ml of pg 7.2 in stock plus twenty or more concentrates and am now contemplating a 900ml freezer pack from pirate. Any testimonials welcome.
I read with amusement of the much venerated throat hit, this broadly translates into the instant irritation factor, I don't want a perception of smoking, I just need my nicotine. The greater the throat hit the less likely I am to vape it but hey that's just me.
We are up against some formidable enemies HMG via the WHO, the UN and the big pharmas. They are as addicted to the revenues via taxation or abjectly useless smoking cessation products as people are to smoking. Over the years I've tried them all, patches, what's the best way of rolling and smoking them? They don't work........at all. I am now happily vaping with no withdrawal symptoms at all!
Be aware, they have to demonise vaping or they couldn't raise tax and control on it.
