I've been running my own experiments by randomly labelling some zero nic diy mixes as having nicotine in them.

I now can't tell the difference between the ones that actually have nic and the ones that say they do.

I do believe it's all in our heads.

Nicotine from tobacco.....highly addicitive due to all the things added to make the brain open specific receptors for it.

Nicotine added to eliquid......probably not addictive at all.

And what Pepperty said about bitextra (Flash) is good advice. As long as you have something to give you the throat hit you probably wouldn't miss nicotine at all if you left it out.
Menthols or sharp citrus eliquids are also good nic-habit breaking juices too.
