The PO are a bunch of useless Pratts! Stepped out today for 15 mins and a parcel came for me and I'm waiting for some liquid etc, I have a notice on the door saysing to leave any parcels with a neighbour. The old lady next door never goes out and there are the rest of the houses in my street...but no they have to put a card through the door saying its at the delivery office...but not for 48 hours! When I contacted them to complain they said we don't leave parcels with neighbours, so i said, what if I was on holiday and a neighbour was keeping an eye on our house and just so happens were checking when you called, would you give it to them? The reply was yes. I COULD HAVE PUNCHED HIM! I then said why 48 hours, where will my parcel be overnight? He said, I don't know, it could be stored anywhere...mmm anywhere but my house eh! So I said can I collect it on my lunch break on Friday? The reply was. No we close during lunch breaks! So how am I supposed to collect it when I'm at work? Have it redelivered he said, oh really and can I give an exact time to deliver it so I can be at home. No, we don't do exact times! I COULD HAVE PUNCHED HIM AGAIN! Lastly I said why don't you do as other parcel delivery services do and open during the lunch break and leave parcels with a neighbour ? He said our customers are our priority and we only do whats easiest! ITS NO WONDER THEY ARE GOING OUR OF BUSINESS, THE SOONER THIS SHAMBLES ARE PRIVATISED THE BETTER!
I'm bloody fuming!

I think it really does come down to where you live. My posties are great - mainly because we are a smallish community, and everyone knows everyone. My posties leave stuff all over the place. If ever I am not home, and my neighbour is also out - then they put parcels in my greenhouse (in the back garden, so an extra trot for them), and put a note on 'the card' to tell me where it is. The Parcel Force chap is also very good. If I am not at home, often he will drive the parcel to my mother's house, or my brother's! He's as good as gold.

(((( Tyne )))) you have my sympathies . . . 9 times out of 10 no attempt is made to deliver a small RM parcel to me and I have to go collect any from the main SO. I'm fed up complaining when I go to collect the parcels. Carriers/Parcel Force are a different matter and will generally leave a parcel with a neighbour or in the garden shed. and leave a card to say where it is. Your posties are very good indeed Hanow.

I'm working for the Post Office, unpaid, it's my Irish moonlighting job...
My address is the same as the street down the road from me, minus the word South.
The postman delivers my post, and South's post, to my house.
I love going down there everyday to drop off South's post. Lol.

I once received a letter addressed: The dog lady (A boxer and Thai beige mongrel), Hellesvean. It was from a lady I had met at the park when walking the dogs. I had told her about Teddy being a resuce, and she asked me for my number so that she could get details of the SW Rescue. Neither of us had a pen, and so she tried to memorise it, and forgot it - of course, as I would have done. The only other thing she remembered was me telling her approximately where I lived. My postie knew exactly who it was for. He gets brutalised on a daily basis by my mutts!

I dont know if should admit this, I know roachie and a couple of others I have told know but I've worked for royal mail for 7 years 3 as a postie and 4 on the collection desk and handling complaints sorry Tyne
I am the 1st to admit royal mail are rubbish, If you've noticed though they have go worse and worse over the past few years This is all due to cut backs and closing sorting offices As I work at oldham they have closed the sorting side down and sent all the indoor staff to Manchester so When someone gets one of them annoying red cards instead of the parcel going straight back to Oldham the parcel makes About a 20 mile round trip to Manchester and back,
It's total madness
Just thought I'd share that with you anyway Please don't shout at me it's not my fault I work for a bunch of idiot lol

Well since the subject has been raised and for future reference if anyone has ordered from me, once I have sent out a couple of orders to people, I don't mind then sending it out unrecorded, providing it is requested at checkout.
Obviously this would only apply to stuff that can go through a letterbox and I can't do anything about the checkout postage because it is at a fixed price (some parcels cost twice the fixed price to send out).
I know how frustrating it can be to miss something that could have gone through a letterbox but, from a business point of view, we do have to protect ourselves against possible claims of non receipt.

I do know about the cutbacks causing the PO to employ contract staff, many of whom not only have no commitment to the ethos but are also thieves and shirkers. Morale is very low. It's a terrible shame, the priorities are all wrong scylla

Jason TBH mate i think its much more better to be sent recorded YES it costs you more but tbh mate least then you know no ones saying oh i didnt get it and what not.Cause when i used to sell on ebay alot i used to send everything out via recorded least then i could have a record. But tbh since the postage prices went up i dunno how any company make any money ontop.I bow down to companies who make sure things are recorded gives the customer that bit more sense of security.
