Hi, I need some advice. I live in the UK and my husband is a heavy smoker and I am not happy with that. His birthday is in less than 10 days time and I want to make him a present of an electronic cigarette kit. I have done my research and I am torn between the following 3 options: www.e-lites.co.ukwww.shop4ecigs.co.ukwww.skycig.co.ukI would appreciate your experience with the above and your advice. Thank you

Hi There are many types of e-cig...the ones you list are mini ones that look like cigarettes. For some people they can be OK, but they work out very expensive and do not offer a great deal in terms of nicotine and satisfaction. If you feel you want to buy him something similar to this, you are better off avoiding the big brands....they are about the money more than the product. (especially E-Lites, which are twice as expensive).... You will get lots of good advice on here. If I was buying a mini look-a-like kit tomorrow (just to try it out and see what's what) I'd start with a mini look-a-like kit from an independent vendor. Far cheaper, and mostly better too. This is really NOT my sort of thing, but I recommended this the other day. www.ivapour.co.uk/janty-dura/janty-dura-510/510-bottom-coil-set-auto.htmland replacement cartomisers from here www.cavecom.com/screwdriverSD/shopSD/cartomisers.shtmlI'll re-visit this thread tonight and see how it's going.

PS - The internet is full of bogus reviews for e-cigs. If you want to get a feel for what people really think about e-lites, have a read of the reviews on here. The owner of this website presumably makes money from promoting brands. He says most of them are OK and that's understandable. www.ecigclick.co.uk/e-lites-review/ (scroll down for "expensive/rip-off/crap/rubbish") There are some shockingly negative reviews on here. It's one of the few websites that allows negative reviews. I wrote about 8 for E-Lites and 6 of them were removed under pressure.

I tried one of the look a likes to see if e cigs were for me , after a week I bought a refillable kit . the reason I bought a lookalike was it was cheap and if it didn't work then I had only lost a few pounds, after 15 months it was the best thing I ever did & feel great. I use a VV battery & evod, pro tanks to hold liquid

Hello I used to smoke 15-20 per day for over 20 years and stopped IMMEDIATELY once I got my kit (as recommended on here) www.vapeescape.co.uk/Deluxe-Vaping-Kits/VE-Riva-1100-Deluxe-Kit/Vape-Escape-Riva-1100-Deluxe-Kit.html I bought some juices from www.joosejuice.co.uk and I was all set. 3 weeks in and I can safely say I will never go back to the "smokes" If I was you I would avoid the cig-look alikes and get a kit something like mine (other good ones out there as well) Take your time to read over this forum, lots of lovely people to help you. Great birthday pressie idea by the way! -get hubbie to sit down and read on here if you can. Believe me it can work..................

Hello & welcome irenevork81 As others have said, you would just be wasting your money if you went for any of the ones you linked to. They are over priced & under perform.

Far be it from me to tell you waht to do and completely understand you wanting your husband to give up - not just for you but for him also. And, whilst this board is full of gorgeous helpful people just waiting to help you on your vaping mission I just wonder what your husband will think? I'm a few weeks in and whilst struggling a bit, am convinced that this is the way forward for me. If anyone though had bought me some kit as a birthday present I'd be bloody obstinate (a bit like I always am on National no smoking day and when I always smoke twice as much)
Does he want to give up? If he doesn't then this might be an investment that isn't going to help. If he does then yay, get him on here to find out about it and what kind of kit he would like and then spend the money saved on a big slap up meal or night away for you both.
I hope I haven't spoken out of turn, just offering what would have been my reaction to receiving such a gift as a surprise!

I'm inclined to agree with effingtonThe trouble is that for most people these things take a bit of perseverance, finding out what juice suits you, what is the best way to drag on them for you and so on. So unless you want to do it, it probably won't work as a compete cigarette replacement. I suppose what might get him to try it, and maybe make it a more acceptable present, would be if you said it was for times when he couldn't have a cigarette.

Hi and welcome to the forum It is probably a little confusing to a non-smoker non-vaper reading through all this. That is a little bit of what you are up against really. A smoker has to be committed in order to take a little time to actually understand the ins and outs of how the vapour is produced and what effect the various variables will have. Unfortunately one of the variables is the size of the battery, which is one of the reasons that the small cig-a-like tend to underperform. To a smoker who needs to replace that "hit" this is a serious problem. People going after better and better performance have produced some amazing devices which become for many not just a replacement for smoking but actually feels like an improvement. People also care what a device looks like. If you bought your husband something that actually performs well and consistently, you may well hit on something that he just doesn't like the look of. It is a bit like trying to buy shoes for someone else, it is very easy to get it wrong. A cig-a-like like the ones you linked to may make him curious enough to investigate further, many have started their journey there. BUT the stopping smoking success rate is a lot higher for people who investigate and move up to more powerful devices. Investing a lot of money in a cig-a-like package for him is unlikely to produce the result you are hoping for. If you want to introduce the idea to him, get something not too expensive for him to try and then send him here if he shows the least bit of interest.

Hi and welcome to the forum irenevork81I would agree with effington and giles you really need to discuss this with your husband and find out if he does want to give up smoking. Possibly one way would be to be smoking as well as using e-cigarettes, that way he could make his own decision about when he is ready to quit if he wants to. I made the decision to quit just over two weeks ago, and bought a pack of E-Lites from the local supermarket. For me it worked superbly at first. I broke the habit of smoking tobacco and did'nt feel the need to go back to it. But two weeks in I realised that the ciggy-likes was'nt going to work. It was getting quite expensive and I was'nt getting the satisfaction needed, so this week I invested in an EVOD kit and a couple of small bottles of e-liquid. It cost me just over £30 which is'nt much dearer than a cig-alike kit. But the difference was amazing. The satisfaction and enjoyment is much higher, and its looking like its going to be a lot cheaper too. I got the kit from www.myepack.co.uk and the delivery was very quick. If you read through this forum you'll find it very informative, and the people on here are very friendly and helpful. I've only been on here about a week and I've learned lots already. Tom

irenevork81 hiya and to AAEC Wow what a generous and thoughtfull Lady ( any chance you could give some lessons to my Mrs?? ) However, the crew are right and at the risk of losing the "suprise gift " element it is worth discussing with Hubby as to what to get with the emphasise on getting a decent basic kit, you never know, he just might have been thinking about it previously but was concerned about your reaction to him spending such a sum without your permission agreement..

Hi & welcome to the forum, irenevork81. A great idea on your part, for both of you. I'm in the camp that thinks having a word with him first would be better & then going for something more useable than a cig-a-like. I hope whatever you decide to do, that he does join us in being a healthier, sweet smelling vaper.
