Surely the adaptor will only draw the amount of current that it is rated for on the Input side, which is normally 5v DC 500mA and then output at 4.2v DC 420mA, so as long as the wall wart is rated above that then it will work, the only problem will occur if the wall wart is rated lower that the input required. in theory you are 100% correct but in practice ego batteries use the cheapest electrical components and are very unreliable you only need to read about the amount of mishaps with them so I wouldn't take no risks at all with them in an ideal world everything would run reliably but that would cost a fortune so in todays throw away society the items get cheaper but reliability goes out of the window

Personally I think most of the mishaps occur because people do not keep an eye on the ego when it is charging and don't take it off when it is charged, thereby letting it overcharge and get hot and eventually explode - just my thoughts on it.

My oh my! Leave you guys alone for a few hours and this happens! So what we've basically summed up is that I was right to only look at the ma rating of the charger and that's that? 420ma dongle, 500ma wall adapter, job's a gooden! That right Ripshod? Tease-smiley SulkingI based what I was saying on what I was learned on these forums. Just glad we straightened it out

Just be glad that you didnt make the same mistake on a less friendly forum.

I am glad this conversation came up as it will help a lot of people and if it hadn't someone might have still used a 2A supply and we all know the results of that but at least we all know and agree now 1) use a ego charger that is rated at 100ma - 480ma 2) use a wall adapter that is rated at 500ma max 3) don't leave unattended 4) if charger or battery gets hot unplug and don't use 5) don't overcharge 6) don't overdischarge don't wait for ego to blink everytime recharge when power drops stay safe if in doubt ask don't take risks I would rather explain for hours than see a mishap and this is all Ripshod wanted in the first place thanks for your input ripshod it is posts like this that remind everyone
