advice on no res wire pls

I've started making my own coils and want to start doin no res/res/no res coils. I use 0.25 kanthal on my coils. Wat no res wire should I buy? Also be interested to know anyone who makes their own coils for protanks etc what size kanthal and no res wire do u use?

It's been a very VERY long time since I made a protank coil but I'm pretty sure I never used no res wire.
Only started using no res on my oddy and penelope.
Have you got a zapper or similar to join the wires?

It would be easier IMO to buy the premade no res/res wires ready to wrap your coils.

As for kanthal, used to use 30G Or 28G... Mainly 30 though on protanks.
In the end I gave up with rebuilding them, they are sooo fiddly to re-coil.. Though you might have a lot better luck than I ever did with them

I have built many NR/R/NR coils for Penelopes. I've tried twisting them together, I've used jewellery crimps and a zapper. At the end of the day the pre-welded wires from FT were the perfect solution and cheap as chips.

Yep, couldn't agree more.
Get someone to do the fiddly work for you, plus you choose what resistance you want safe In the knowledge that they are going to be pretty spot on.

tbh fasttech ready made are fine, if a little flimsy. the great thing about them is however many wraps you do, it'll still be stated ohm you ordered.

I have some 1.8 ohm nr-r-nr and they work ok but they are very fine so if you are replacing cotton wick it's easy to squish your microcoil do care is needed

I didn't get scorching, but I swear I could taste plastic/rubber. I've tried with silicone and with standard and could still taste "something". I definitely get a better flavour using NR.

Shame fasttech doesn't do it in thicker wire, but they are so cheap that if I have to replace the coil more often it's no biggie

Ah fair enough, that's why I asked as I'm sure I just used standard kanthal and never had any problems but could see the benefits of using no res premade.
I believe I used to get them from stealthvape but I'm sure they will be exactly the same as the ones from FT... Only slightly quicker delivery.

One thing I will say though, is just be gentle with them when wrapping coils as I used to pull more apart then I would get to coil

Only ever used them with silica, couldn't imagine they would stand up too well to having cotton/rayon pulled through them..

If you decide to go the zapper route I'd recommend you go for 0.25 kanthal and 0.25 nr. Although you can zap differing size wires together it takes a lot more practice. Zapping the same size together is much much easier

0.25 will give a robust Microcoil with a decent resistance range in a protank. You could also try 0.3 although I've found this slow to heat up at typical protank wattage values.

As said the FT premades will do the job but they are a bit flimsy.

I use them in my diver v2's but I don't re thread my wick, I just do a fresh build. I'm not sure they would be decent in a protank where you redo cotton wick every week?

I'm going to try zapping my own no res legs onto a firmly flamed microcoil.... it'd be worth doing if the coil lasts a few months with a weekly rewick, as that's what nature vape produce...I hope!

Good luck pep. Not sure with a diver but with a Sophia you have to use 0.2 NR due to the tolerances, anything thicker causes issues with jamming or damaging the inner positive pin.

no no I use ready made for my diver - the space is far too limiting, I just meant is try nr-r-nr coils to go in protank as they seem roomy in comparison to my divers and killers

my own efforts making a nr-r-nr joints can't survive wrenching about in a ceramic cup, they snap at the weld on my own versions. it's fasttech all the way for ceramic cup builds
