I'm utterly distraught. Tried many cables, sometimes the lightning bolt appears as though it is charging but after a minute or two it goes away. It will show a random battery level when plugged in which drops to zero on the first use. Any known fixes or is it the end for my trusty iStick?

Doubt there is anything you can do, it has to be at leasts 18 months old, but I have working silver one Perpetua gave me with worn out threads and would happily put your top plate on that for free, though the cost postage 2 ways is not insignificant.

Ironically Perpetua passed this one on to me too about 18months ago. It was shocking pink so I rewrapped it and broke and fixed one of fthe micro switches last summer. I'm not sure it's worth the postage to try and fix it up, but thanks for the offer anyway. I guess I'll have to get another cheapo TC40W from FT...sometime.

Well it certainly seems to be behaving better, battery voltage showing 3.2 from 3.1, and I was able to get a toot from it. found this handy dany guide on how to clean it properly - if this works I will be quite a happy camper.

...and here we are, two hours later with one fully charged, fully functional iStick 20W!!! Etc. Thanks kingofswords for the suggestion. I'm going to follow the tutorial I linked to and clean it out good and proper. Soooo glad I didn't just toss it in the bin (as if a tightwad like me ever would)

So I had a poke around in there with a toothpick, then a sewing needle (turn it off first, if you can remove the base plate so you can see easier). Didn't get much out in the way of fluff, but the interstitial toothbrush got out a lot of black gunk, so I'm assuming it was just mucky from years of living in pockets and maybe a bit of juice ingress. Peering inside with a torch and magnifying glass, it looks clean now and the contacts look almost shiny. Still happy. The iStick is such a perfect walking about mod to have in your arsenal.
