I've had a bit of a frustrating day with the Penelope, all my wick and wire arrived so thought I would rewick to get some practise in. When I tested my first attempt the Provari said the ohms were 3.9, thought that was crap so pulled it apart and tried again with a 3cm (half the size I tried before) of no resistance wire. This time the Provari said low and wouldn't fire.
So did another one and it's reading 2.2 but that seems too high, surely I want 1.6, my aim is huge vapour clouds and massive throat hit without a burning taste.
So what am I doing wrong? What size should the wire be? What's a good way to get a consistent result each time?

2.2 is fine Tim if you're using the Provari - just let the Provari do the work, that's what you bought it for

That's the thing about the Provari Tim, it takes your slightly dodgy coil and turns it into a 1.8ohm animal I only ever use 2.4-2.8 on the Provari, whereas on an eGo I would use 1.8 Same end result, roughly speaking.

Remember to allow a bit extra for the connections EG, wire at 34 ohms per meter equates to .34ohms per cm so a 5cm length will give a coil of 1.7ohms. Allow a bit extra to account for the connections and you'll be looking at a 5.6cm length.

Very true, that's the whole point of VV This is where the kick shines, it does all the calculations for you without you even knowing

Tim did you see my ohms/volts/watts thread?

The total effective length of the coil wire ie., resistance wire -this is the clear length of coil wire after you finish winding the nickel/silver wire at each end- is what matters. What diameter and type resistance/ coil wire are you using?

It's absolutely fine to use in your Penelope OneDay . . . that seller had posted his wick on UKV1 and is very good to deal with, reading the feedback. I've not checked out UKV2. Looking at it, it just appears to be a bit looser braided than the wick Penelope comes with and that Cam was selling ( briefly! ) seperately.
