as much as i have not been amused and how it's naused up London, I did happily watch plenty of the Olympics while in Devon, managed to catch most of the big events/medals and i really enjoyed it, the opening ceremony was typically british the closing was 75% okay no idea why they had models/fashion in there, cant stand the spice girls and fatboy slim was playing to a backing track ;-)
all in all i think the country as a whole did well, but the BBC are very good at painting rosy pictures, was it a success yes, will it benefit Stratford/Hackney doubt it, has it regenerated the area? can't see how.. they also did up the high street in Leytonstone, not going to change anything.
all in all though it's about those that compete, and they get my applause for how hard they work.

Whilst coverage of the Games has at times been a bit OTT . . . I've loved seeing and reading ' news ' about people who have actually achieved something to be proud of, rather than the usual diet of dross we're normally fed about B list celebrities and their love lives. The closing ceremony, was for me spectacular, some of the acts I could have coped without, but they didn't spoil my enjoyment . . . and I actually felt rather sad, seeing that amazing Cauldron and Olympic flame being extinguished . . . .
