Fantastic, fabulous running from Mo Bel, I'm sure there'll be replays. Watching the diving myself, well done Tom!

I too have embraced the Olympics which has surprised me tbh... Normally I would just watch the gymnastics but I've been like a tramp on a sandwich with this one lol, and do you know what I'm pleased. I've watched sports I haven't seen before (handball, bmx, the different cycling events at the veladrome etc) and its opened up a whole new world for me!

i did enjoy the games very much. i did think the bbc freeview coverage was good but it didnt have a patch on skys bbc freesat coverage. 20+ for freesat and 3 for freeview. apparently offcom wouldnt allow the bbc to create split channel's on freeview yet they could on sky wtf is that all about we pay for offcom and the bbc yet the vast majority of people couldnt watch what they want when they want, bare in mind this has been in the planning for years and we have a heap of sado channels on freeview that could have been used for 2 weeks. ok i could watch it online, "terrific" that will be why i bought a great big tv to watch it all on my laptop. as said i did enjoy it but i would love to have watched which sport i wanted to watch and not keep flip flapping from one thing to another.
anyway rant over.
well done britain.

Whilst I agree with the points made re nationalism, I have enjoyed the fact that we have competed as Great Britain and not as four separate nations. If we did this in all sports we'd do a lot better on the world stage.

I have said in the past that if the eurosceptics were smart, they'd invite the rest of the EU to join the UK. That way we'd get another 26 goes at winning the World Cup

So ... politics, news media coverage, and "British interest" aside, what would you nominate as your highlights, purely in terms of the quality of the play? Here's one I'd nominate for starters: Zhang (CHN) vs Joo (KOR) in the Men's Team Table Tennis gold medal match. I don't even like table tennis that much, but this was amazing stuff. An attacking player versus a defensive player, with some jaw-dropping rallies. I highly recommend a look at this if you didn't see it - even if you just watch the first set or two. Click on the link below, and on the bottom menu bar select section "03 Game 2 Zhang (CHN) vs Joo (KOR)". www.bbc.co.uk/sport/olympics/2012/live-video/p00w32bcAny other recommendations?

Random thoughts: I hated the fact that we won the Games, I thought it was a vainglorious and misbegotten venture. I won't say "all's well that ends well", because we may yet have to suffer a third-rate pop concert in lieu of a spectacular but dignified closing ceremony, the opening ceremony having been a curate's egg. I have been amazed and impressed by the organisation; some of the Beeb's commentators should have had speech therapy and/or English lessons, or have been replaced, that's inexcusable; fed up with being told something's "a little bit" wrong when it's totally useless; fed up with being told to use the red button when mine won't do anything despite retunings; fed up with missing stuff cos I can't keep up; fantabulous performances by some of our athletes, wet (and I use that word advisedly) by some others, but we must accept that other countries' athletes have a right to be better. HeroesJessica Ennis for overcoming the pressure of expectation, what nerve and guts! Jason Kenny for being very young and quiet and winning Laura Trott for being very young and naturally bubbly and winning Ben Ainsley for being a tough guy (Laura has tweeted that she and Jason are "dating".) Non-heroesTeam GB road cyclists for not having a Plan B, poor Cav I will miss the Olympics as wallpaper, shall have to revert to Murder She Wrote but only 12 episodes left

I must admit I didn't watch any off it,if it hasn't got a wheel in each corner it doesn't interest me,plenty of annoyance bouncing around the car forums I frequent at the BMW cars used at the start and end,not against the games in any way just not my thing, glad to see it happen here and glad to see team GB do so well, roll on the end of the F1 summer break so I can watch some real sport

Anyone see the closing ceremony? I gave it a miss as I was shattered and in any event didnt want my ears polluted with such crap as the Spice Girls, Russell Brand or Jessie J and the like. I did see on the news this morning that it went well.
But glad that its over............ back to normality for 2 weeks then the paralympics start!!
