You need a day out in my neck of woods, a days beechcombing with the kids at Runswick Bay, Robin Hoods Bay etc should see you with pockets full of Whitby Jet.

Its a lovely stone and has a particular lustre when polished.

Thanks guys been trawling eBay but not had much luck thanks nicky for link x and luner I spent most of my childhood trawling in Whitby found a few fossil stones on beach in mablethorpe today gonna polish them up

Contact the B.G.S British Geological Survey - ethical buying is recommended as some gemstones are mined and found where conditions are unbelievable, the B.G.S. often have samples or can give details of geologists who bring back gemstones and sell off cheap as chips

Fair-trade often have sellers as well

You can however buy fake ones that look just as good, it does depend what you want them for though

Ooh, I've been looking for something to cover the battery in my
Meerschaum pipe mod



I picked up a lump of amethyst from a market stall but it isn't circular
and I've no way to work stone.
It needs to be ~16mm diameter, circular and with a flat base.
I took a look at Nicky's link for a suitable bit of lapis lazuli, but saw
nothing suitable.

If any of you chaps spot anything likely on your browsings, I'd appreciate
a nod. Lapis lazuli or something red would be nice to finish off the turban.
