Hi Scyll, I had to leave computer to see to other things but I ran Spybot whilst doing so.
That has come back absolutely clean - nothing at found. So that's a relief.

Stan - I didn't give him any details although I did ask if it was to do with my Speedtouch problem but he didn't know anything about it!!

I was fairly confident I didn't click on anything - in the end all I did was to tell him I didn't like him and put the phone down!!! MM

Please run the HJT because you can get it checked by an expert and he will reassure you or fix it. You'll see, it's really simple.

It's been traumatic, one thing after another for you.

(Maybe it's me that needs the reassurance )

Scyll - I've been downloading malwarebytes - don't know if I've done it properly - according to them - my machine is likely to blow-up or words to that effect!!!!!
Do you use the 'payfor' service? I'm getting more and more confused.

I will give HijackThis a go now....................think I'll have a walk in the snow with no clothes on !!!

Malwarebytes is a good tool - the free version is the one to get, no need to pay for any of these sorts of tools..

This PC support phone scam must be getting more common - there is even a thread about it on the eBay PS board !

Hi MM - all is well. But seein' as I'm so ill will you please allow me a sarky question? (I'm assuming "yes".)

Where in my emails did you once see the word PRINT? Just askin' like

Only the free progs need to be installed, unless you're feeling flush - but most techies would frown on us paying.

When you are in the process of installing the free programs, keep an eye out for things like "would you like to install Yahoo toolbar" with the tick-boxes already ticked - UNTICK them. The poor dears are just trying to make a few bob on the side, no harm done but most of us don't want the extras.

So...

(1) Install and run SuperAntispyware Free and click whatever it asks you to click when it's finished scanning to remove/quarantine whatever.

(2) Install and run Malwarebytes ............ditto..............

(3) Double-click on HigjackThis.exe, click the box "scan and create report" (something like that, it says) and save the resulting Notepad report, and send it as an email attachment to me or Chrissie and we'll put it before the eyes of an expert. There won't be sensitive info in there.

Chrissie, I think it's best if you put the report on the board because I have great trouble with text docs on there ???

Scylla, more than happy to try & put the report on the Techie board. Can't guarantee though it won't end up with loads of < span > etc . The new ebay community boards are still like a bad joke IMHO As per my thread on the next generation board - it just isn't working

'morning Got another bloody problem now!! Can't find my Firefox 'bookmarks' I have got into you via the link in our old eBay group!! I have written this to Scyll on the EBAY thread 'cos I thought she may be still up!!

I have lost the bars that run across the top - ZoneAlarm update keeps taking it over so got rid of it. (The bar not ZA)
Yesterday I had a complete black bar across the top but somehow I got rid of that too.
I'm now completely lost. I have looked things up in the Help whatsit but nothing does.
I haven't even got a 'back' button so have to go back to beginning for everything.

I can't even do a System Restore.

HELP any ideas???? This machine has been so good up till now, I never had to do anything!! MM

Raggy I have been there and registered and made a test post, but I don't know what happens next. They have confirmed I have registered etc.

Just realised, I have Computer Active delivered regularly - guess I could've asked them!!! But I don't think they have forums as such. MM
