Well, only 6 of us have voted, and I for one am voting for the man and the dancer he could be rather than the dancer he is, so far. Aliona is such a handicap (but not everyone thinks so) my heart goes out to him. And people say he's not sexy (doesn't bovver me, I don't go for sexy... often ??? ) and call him "smug farmer" so they won't vote for him So I will! If he doesn't perform well I shall vote for Kara, it's only fair. Kara is indeed a lovely dancer but she's so elegant and balletic that I just can't lump her in the competition with the others. It's nice to see "ordinary people" discover hidden talent. scylla

I've just been along the road to get some 'loose' vegetables - the heaven's opened and we had the most heavy snow falling down on us!! Don't mean the snow was 'heavy', just lots of it all of a sudden!! So we are covered again!! We had a little last night which was frozen this morning, now this lot has gone on top of it. Nasty!! MM The sky has just blacked over and white stuff if swirling around. No!! It's a real blizzard, can't see out of my windows - Heeeellpp!! The sun is now trying to break through!! Crazy weather!!

You know me, MM - "glass half empty" is when I'm feeling positive I was having a lie-down listening to I Claudius (recorded) when stepmum phoned to say that Woman's Hour were repeating a menopause discussion, so I got all galvanised for it with notebook and pen, and it was only a few minutes long What can I have that's nice in preparation for The Event? No ice-cream or chocolate available... hmmm, Nutella and a pot of tea scylla

Scylla, are you referring to the BBC production, starring Derek Jacobi? That was one of my favorite shows, along with Danger UXB and of course, Upstairs/Downstairs.

No, but I watched that avidly when it was first aired and have watched repeats and got it on video from the local library - wonderful! This is a radio serial that the BBC have just done, I'm recording it on my PVR. The Claudius actor is toning down the stammer a bit but his voice is fairly similar to Derek's, and the Augustus actor's voice is fairly similar to Brian Blessed's - not that anyone could match him at his booming best Those were the days, they don't make 'em like that any more - the sad thing is that it's true. I think you might like Cranford with Judy Dench and other elder states-ladies of the UK stage and screen, small town life at the time of the coming of the railways. Did you ever see Tinker, Tailor? A John le Carre cold war spy novel dramatised with Alec Guinness and lots of other stalwart Brits and the odd American. I think you would have like that at the time. Some things do date technologically/cinematically if you know what I mean. I wish they'd digitise it or whatever they do to movies to improve the quality. Am getting carried away here scylla

I saw a few episodes of the Cranfords, but not the whole series. The train ride caught my eye, because I am a aficionado of railroads. Fortunately for me, there is a rail line going through my town. Now I am rambling on about trains. lol. We have a couple of Public Broadcasting Stations that carry many British shows. I am familiar with all the actors/actresses that you mentioned. I don't think that I have seen Tinker, Tailor. Are we Americans really odd ? LOL. I know what you meant, but I thought it was funny. Jerry
