Ok so I'm gonna ask a real noob question here, I know voltage and resistance both play a big part in vaping, and I understand that lower resistances and higher voltages can increase the heat of your coil and thus the amount of vapour produced.
Now I have a skycig kit and a riva 1100 kit, and was wondering what the voltages are on these batteries, and what the resistance is on the skycig cartomisers.
I know the innokin cartomisers I have are 2.2 ohms, and my i3 clearos are around 3 ohms, so no issue with these.
The big issue for me is knowing how low I can go on resistance, with the kit I have, and not have to worry about it blowing up, or burning out.
I have enjoyed my experience of vaping so far, and am now looking to go further into the technical side, and I feel that I need to understand these basic before going into the world of VV

I believe that with a Riva battery, you're not supposed to go lower than 2 ohms, or you do risk damaging the wires inside it.

I believe that with a Riva battery, you're not supposed to go lower than 2 ohms, or you do risk damaging the wires inside it. That has been confirmed often by the guys that know about these things. It's ok on an ego battery but not on a Riva as they have thinner wires inside which might be damaged by the extra heat below 2.0

Also, to answer another question in the OP, I believe that a Riva 1100 puts out around 4.2 volts initially, but the voltage will reduce as the battery discharges.
No idea about skycig cartos, though, so I can't answer the question about what resistance they are.

Yep - you are fine with 2ohms on a Riva battery. As for voltage, the Riva is unregulated, so it starts of at about 4.2 volts and gradually goes down as you use it. The best single indicator of the "vaping experience" is probably the wattage, to get that, square the voltage and divide by the resistance. So 2 ohms at 4 volts gives you 8 watts, to get the same effect from a 3 ohm 'miser, you would need nearly 5 volts.

thanks guys this has been a big help, especially as I have a mini nova on the way, and need to know which heads to use, as I don't want to damage any of my kit.
I have been trying the skysig cartos with great effect on the riva, they seem to vape better than my innokins, but that could be down to the juice as much as anything.
I am guessing that with the wattage, higher is better??

I am guessing that with the wattage, higher is better?? Higher is hotter. But hotter is not necessarily better, as it varies from juice to juice. Using a coil at around 2 ohms, there are some juices I'd probably go down to around 3.6-3.8 volts for, and some where I might go up to 4.2-4.4 volts. And various ones in between. Obviously, once you get a VV device, it's very much a question of personal taste and seeing what works for you, with different juices and different atomisers/set ups.

Well I will be ordering a VV at the end of the month, probably going to be either an ego twist or a lavatube, as they are quite affordable, and seem to be fairly good kit from what I've read.
Now I can get to a little experimenting and not need to worry about killing anything along the way, and now I understand how the voltage/ampage/wattage works, I might get better results from some of my juices by changing between my cartos and clearos, and when it arrives my vivi too.

Gothic, have you tried Boge LR (2ohms) cartomisers on your Riva? I still love using Boge LR cartos

I was planning to buy some boges on my next order, so I could compare to the innokins, as I have heard boge are the best. I need to leave it a week or 2 tho as I'm in the bad books for my new drip tip and mini nova (both should be here soon as they were both dispatched toaday ). I am looking to experiment as much as possible, so all suggestions and ideas are welcome

hell at that price if I don't get on with it, it's no real loss, so will be giving that a try I think, and any excuse to get a new drip tip, I can see them becoming a new addiction, I already have a couple I like, 1 on the way, and others I want to buy

You may as well get 2 or 3 at once. They can be a bit temperamental (eg, you can get ones that seem to give you nothing but burnt hits). And you never know how long one will last before its performance goes downhill.
I'm not really selling them, am I?
The thing is, when they do work, and you figure out how much juice to drip in so that it's neither too dry or too wet, they produce fantastic vapour and flavour.
