Not to try discount anything, but I bought that exact one Perps, within 10 minutes of use the valve assembly had melted preventing further use.

yeah people have used the gas hob with sucess... so long as you can get the mesh red hot

Very sadly we have no gas hob here. Its annoyingly all electric. I've used the disposable lighter once but found that abit dangerous. I bought a refillable blue flame type lighter, but again, it just melted. I'm not too eager to spend 50 quid on one, was hoping more around like 20 quid mark. Theres several on ebay, I might just pays my money on one. And allen, your cut out for this steel wick malarkey.
