Sorry to start what is almost certainly the umpteenth thread on this, but tonight I've done my first real coils and wick, having got my multimeter this week.
Four coils of Kanthal A, legs doubled over and twisted together, ohms tested before I attached it to my lavatube were 1.8.
I attached it to the lavatube at 3.2 v and put some juice on the coil, fired it up and got vapour without anything blowing up, so put the tank on and filled it up feeling mightily pleased with myself.
Vaped for about a minute and noticed that the metal tank was getting hot.
What have I done wrong?

You have a coil inside that heats up to a high temperature, as you vape things will start to get warm

The metal tanks on any of these rebuildables do get hot Moon, just like an atomiser would, with the heat that's being generated inside to fire up the coil/evaporate the juice. Personally, I don't think you have done anything wrong.

You have a coil inside that heats up to a high temperature, as you vape things will start to get warm Whilst that's reassuring, I haven't noticed it happening with the stock coils I've been using, although I haven't used my metal mini tank for a week or two so possibly I'm looking for problems that don't exist.

Personally, I don't think you have done anything wrong. More reassurance. Good work folks, keep it coming. I'll try a metal tank with a stock 1.8 head tomorrow and see if I get the same sort of heat. If I haven't done anything wrong, I'll revert to being pleased with myself again. Small things... Update (as if anyone's interested) Now vaping with my larger Vivi Nova tank with stock head and it's getting hot. Apologies for my nobdom, I think I was just worried about blowing my face off.

Lol . . . better to be safe than sorry Moon. That's what I thought. I'm using it now and am inordinately pleased with what amounts to managing to wrap a bit of wire around some string. How sad is that?

Congrats on your first coil build Moon It used to fill me with dread, but now I look forward to building my coils and tinkering and experimenting. I've recently discovered Kanthal wire and love it, but if I told any of my friends how excited I am about my new wire they might take me to hospital

Now I've got the first one out of the way, I've a lot more confidence. I've had a couple of practice goes previously, but had no means to measure resistance so didn't want to connect them just in case. Look out for the "Man Blows Himself Up With Ecig" headlines in the papers in the coming weeks.

Not that I've seen Ellen . . . though I am on a stalking mission for it, as it would do very nicely for Penelope. I'll keep my eyes peeled.
