I haven't heard anything about this ban. Do you have any link to back the claims up?
I've seen things like this before and shortly after signing up, I've been bombarded with junk mail.

Looks like Avaaz are honest but their db has been extensively hacked.

I started out on Nucig, and they are promoting this action (imho Nucig are one of the best of the suppliers who sell through chemists, but still pretty poor and very expensive by the standards of the sort of people you find on the vendors list here) so I imagine we'll see a lot of it.

Personally I don't think the timing is right for a campaign. The next important UK action is in May. Also, I wouldn't spam my inbox or trust any organisation that said I should do so. When the time comes I think we shold be writing to our MPs and MEPs, Health Secretary, and maybe people like our doctors, ASH UK and so on, not spamming our friends.
