Dee, I presume you have tried raising the center pin on your lavatube?
I don't understand how you can say it is "stretched"???

Yes.. Realistic rating of a 14500 battery is about 600 mAh.. thanks Macca, gonna leave it then, saw an AW at 750, but even that's too low, especially as you say the realistic rating is likely around 600. after my brush with the ego VV 650 mah passthrough... I'm not touching any VV device less than 1000mah ever again

You can also find 900 mAh 14500 batteries. At 14500 sizes it's all about C rating. Protected Lithium cobalt (ICR) 14500 batteries exist at higher capacity but they will not be able to provide adequate current for e-cig use due to their chemistry..What you found was probably a Protected AW ICR.
IMR (Lithium Manganese ) with higher discharge ratings is required for this size for e-cig use.. Unfortunately IMR batteries also have a lower energy density so the rating will be around 600 mAh..
It's not all about mAh. It's more about discharge ratings and total battery wattage.

But that is, I guess, the price you pay for its small size.

Well it depends on what you use with it..if you normally vape a 2.5 ohm carto at say 3.7 volts (1.5 amps) a higher capacity ICR will give you a good vape time and performance as high as 900 mAh.
Once you start drawing around 2 amps or more you start going into IMR territory which means recued battery wattage.
So it may suit some and not others who like to vape 1.8 ohm cartos at 3.7-4 volts..
It's really like how much fuel you use depends on how you drive your car..

Well I don't suppose we'll ever know what kind of battery was in the Ego VV, all we know is it is 650 mah macca, it lasts only a few hours for all 3 of us that bought one, no good for any of us.

The Kgo-VV uses Desay Lipo batteries which are of a good quality..How long a battery will last you obviously depends on how hard you are working it..However with it having a passthrough feature makes it better for people who work and vape at a desk because you can charge and vape at the same time.
Higher voltage, lower resistance, more vaping etc., are all factors that define how long a battery will last you. Straightforward commonsense reasons.
If it does not suit your vaping style and preferences better to go for bigger batteries like you said before. I use 2 x 650 mAh twists and 2 x 1300 mAh VV spinners and rotate between them and they easily last me a day and a half between charges. If I used a 650 mAh twist on it's own it would probably last me 3 -4 hours at my vaping preference.

Not very high at all macca, 2.6 - 2.8 ohm at around 3.5 to 3.8 volts... get 3 hours tops out of them... I usually get over a day out of a single ultrafire 3000mah (actual mah much lower obviously) So I think I'm gonna stick to over 1000mah and high drain (I wont be buying ultrafire again, in fact I didn't this time, got loads for free, but they've served me well to be fair)

It is true you are not going to get a day's vaping out of a 14500 Alvo - like macca says 600mAh is about as good as you will get and only that if you get a good one like an AW IMR. This is the price you pay for a slim form factor. However, bear in mind that 14500's are exactly the same size as normal AA batteries, so it is not much of a problem to carry a spare or two
