First of all, apologies for starting another Vivi Nova related thread. Like a number of people, judging by the posts here and elsewhere, I'm struggling to maintain a healthy relationship with my Vivi Nova. After getting the dreaded burnt taste with the 2.4 ohm head after 5/6 days of intermittant use I swapped over to the supplied 1.8 ohm head only to find that, a half tank later, the taste was back. I thought I'd have a go at converting a head to a stainless steel mesh (parts will be ordered as soon as I get my head around the different types of wire) so with that in mind I took apart the original 2.4 ohm head - pictures of burnt innards attached. A few questions spring to mind: - Is the burnt gunk around the coil burnable-offable? Or is this just a sign that the head needs to be replaced?
- Has anyone here fitted an SS mesh to their Vivi Nova? I've seen a few people saying they have had good results but has it lasted? The burn mark on the rubber grommit also has me thinking that it may also be in part responsible.
- Looking around for alternatives there seems to be a big jump in price between cheaper atomisers like the Vivis/Kangers and the sturdier Penelopes/DIDs. Are there any out there I've missed that bridge the gap? Would love to try a Genesis style rebuildable but am trying hard to make vaping a cheaper alternative to smoking!
Thanks! Attachments:

what juice are you using? that coil is gunked and needs replacing the same could happen with a caramel juice but with mesh a dry burn now and then will prolong its life. The little silicone grommit at the bottom does go like that and give a nasty burnt rubber taste the little sleeve is there to stop the legs of the coil shorting but gets chucked by a lot of people when rebuilding. Try the classies for a cheap rebuildable genesis or try the cheap vapingthings ones to see if you like the setup,a dripper is a good idea if it suits. By the way I have tried mesh in the vivi and it works well but for ease of use as a back up I stick to silica 3mm and kanthal .20 5 turns works ok again it depends what device you are using and again what juice and how you personally like you vape.

I think the wicks are fibreglass so you can burn it off fine. Just make sure to boil it in a pan of water for 10 min after it's burnt off to get rid of the burnt taste.

try a pair of tweezers and hold it over a flame to burn it off might have gone too far to do but worth a go

I was one of the unlucky ones when it came to the viva nova v1 & v2 (theyre up to v5 or summit now?) I think the build quality varies alot and some work like a dream, whilst others are turkeys no matter how much modding or tweaking. If the tips that the guys have offered brings no joy consign it to the spares bucket and try a cheap rebuildable

I've been using 2 juices with that head: white chocolate (Grizwald's) and vanilla custard (Pixie Juice). Both are definitely the sort that I could vape all day!
Thanks for the vapingthings lead - first time I've seen anything like those at that price. Unfortunately they're out of stock at the mo :-( (but will keep a close eye on the site!)
Nothing to lose so willl give burning a go but think a cheap rebuildable sounds like the right next move - wish I'd seen the thread for the Aga-T group buy before the order went in.
Thanks for the feedback!

I'd defo recommend a genesis type with ss wick - got myself one from vapour hut and it's brilliant - VERY frustrating at first, learning how to wick and coil....but once you've got it down .... effin lovely.
Put a curved stainless steel mesh in my nova just the other day, following Todd's tutorial...works lovely and very easy to do.

Yup, Todd's tutorial was the one I first stumbled upon - makes it look pretty easy! (I'm sure it's not as easy as that at first though) Found the Vapour Hut rebuildable - looks very reasonable too. Will hunt around for some reviews tomorrow!
