Following advice off here I bought a eXhale CE5 starter kit and a selection of Vapourtine liquids to sample, using the promo codes. So far so good. The only downside is I'm using it much more than I ever smoked, but hoping the initial new toy novelty might wear off and a return to just itching an evening crux I could never quite kick.
I'm just curious about best practise with these clearomisers.
Should I use them horizontally rather than vertically? or doesn't it matter?.
Are they best kept full all the time, rather than emptyish? (difficult when you have many new flavours to sample).
Do I try and avoid the crackle! pop! sound? Or is it not of any consequence?.
Is the crackle/pop sound an indication that the wick is dry/burning?
Is it obvious when the wick/coil needs replacing? I presume this is the bit that needs replacing regularly?
BTW, no ciggies since I started, first time I've ever managed it at home on an evening. cheers

Hi hoppers and congrats on doing without the ciggies.
I'm a Nova user, not a CE5, but there don't seem to be any CE5 users on, and I guess the principles are the same.
I would think most us vape with the thing pointing down a little, but I don't think it matters a lot as long as it isn't pointing up.
I doubt if it will matter whether the CE5 is full or not, as long as it doesn't get empty. You don't normally want to let the wick dry.
The snap and crackle is harmless, though I am a little surprised you are getting it with that kit. May be worth checking no liquid has leaked to the battery cavity.
Most wick/coils either stop giving vapour or start to taste bad after a while. It may not be all that obvious at first.

The main thing is as giles just said, is to keep the wick's wet at all times, not a problem when it is full, but as the liquid goes down then you may need to tip it up occasionally to wet it to get a better vape, if it is too dry you will start getting a burnt taste, you will know when this happens. I used to fill them up again when they got to about 1 third left, hth, andy.

I point them down to the floor(ish), that's my take although others may vary. Horizontal shouldn't be a problem but pointing up is generally considered a no no.
The closer to full they are I find the better the taste. Although if it's too full then the flavour becomes muted (for a while) generally don't fill it higher than the silicone bit). If you're running low, tip it to the side and swish it to make sure the wicks are well coated so you don't get a burnt taste (a dry hit)
Crackling varies depending on the juice you use, in my experience, it's nothing to worry about. You'll know if you get a dry hit, it tastes rough.
The wick and coil IS what you replace, if you're getting no taste / vapour then that's when you need to change it.
I tend to give mine a good clean every week and can get the clearos and heads (wicks & coils to last well over a month this way).

I started with the same kit and although I have moved on to different mods, I still use my exhale kit. I like the CE5 and I have re-wicked them several times. Do you have the long wicks or the short ones? I tend to vape mine horizontally but if you get into the habit of tipping it just a tad beyond horizontal, you will just do it automatically. The long wick ones need less tipping and you can go from full to empty, no problem. I get the crackle and pop sometimes which I like, it means that your coil is doing a good job of vapourising the e-liquid, I quite like it, it feels like the popping candy we used to get more years ago than I want to think about. The CE5`s are easy to clean, just fill the tank upto the half way mark with warm water, put your finger over the top and shake vigorously, tip out the water and repeat several times until your wicks go back to as near white as you can get them. Then let then dry. You can then do a dry burn of your wick which involves pressing the fire button for 3 or 4 seconds then take your finger off for 3 or 4 seconds several times, each time you press, you should see a little smoke come out of the top( this is done with the driptip removed) repeat until no more smoke comes out and if you look down into it you should see the coil glowing red. At that point remove tank from battery and rince out a couple of times and let it dry fully, it is then ready to use. It sounds a bit long winded but the whole thing doesnt take more than 5 minutes. Have a look at this youtube Vid, it should explain it a little clearer. Well done for kicking the "stinkies".

She says not to get water down the centre.....but doesn't shaking it do that? Either way, if the wick is wet from cleaning, and the coil is wet (from wicking) is she dry burning it wet?

Oops, my mistake. That Vidio is for the earlier CE3. Yes you will get water down the centre but you can blow it out either from the top or from the bottom. The CE5 can be unscrewed from the bottom to clean and change heads so you can just take out the complete base/center post/coil and wash it under the tap until the wicks are back to white. Then hold kitchen roll around the centre post/wick and the water will be absorbed ready for the dry burn. To your other question regarding dry burning with wet wicks, it just takes longer as you have to evaporate the water from the wick before the dry burn will happen, so best to leave the CE3 to dry or with the CE5 just squeeze the wick between folded kitchen roll. Sorry for any confusion, I have CE3, CE4 and CE5 and all are slightly different.

cheers for the info, I'll have a read thru at my leisure. Was wondering why they needed regular cleaning, realising now, probably my saliva mostly?

Remember that any atomiser is considered disposable so they won't last forever. Just make sure you have a spare.

... or with the CE5 just squeeze the wick between folded kitchen roll. Done as you say. 100% result on my clearos (V3/T3) last night and this morning. Ta.
