Good evening Happy Vapers,
Can you help me,
I have a toshiba laptop I also have a whippet that is suffering from Stress when we leave her what I need to do is record her in the living room to see what is happening when we are out, Pacing up and down barking or what have you,
NOW!! can a device be set up on my laptop to do this? if so can you tell me what i need,

you could use a web cam as it would be safer than leaving a lappy open in case it gets knocked over,when we had dogs they used to get stressed etc as they were alone,used to human contact,so we just left tv on they stopped barking etc

So you want a record of your stressed dog? Are you trying to monitor your dog from a remote location? What kind of internet/network do you have?

I've seen an advert in the last couple of days for Comet, Currys, one of the big boys, for a webcam that remotely streams video to your phone

For £40 squid you culd buy an IP web cam, this plugs into your router or can even be wireless, you can then log in via any PC / Laptop, iPhone / Android phone with the correct app and view live footage

Might be a little better than a webcam and your Tosh running all the time

Hi, Well the granddaughter came round just as I was going to currys, told he what i wanted she said , (why not use the camera i sold you)
I forgot it had a video recorder!!!! set it up in the dining room and went out & left the dog came back and put the sim in my laptop and BINGO There was the dog pleased to say she was only crying , not as bad as I thought Thank God.

It's still bad enough tho, your dog should be happy waiting for you coming back instead of being stressed about you going out.

Have you looked into ways of helping her cope? You can almost certainly ease her out of this stress pattern in 2 - 3 weeks.

Hi Raid, Yes we have Done a lot to try and avoid this situation,
When I come back the greeting I get is unbelievable,
We also have a 7 month old pup which my vet tells me should help her
but if I go out she just witters it is getting a little better as when we first got her she would just not let me out of her sight now i can go up the garden and the wife says she is fine, When the wife is still in the house I can go up town and last Sat i was away all day and she said she was relaxed so things are getting better, We only got her in July so time I hope will put this right.
Any tips will be appreciated.

Sorry it took me so long to reply johnboy.

I find that dogs learn your 'going out' routine and they know that they will be alone which causes them to stress out.

Simple routine:

Put on shoes, get coat, get keys, lock door on way out, start car, etc.

A good tactic to try is breaking the routine, for example:

Put on your shoes and grab your keys then go and sit on sofa watching TV for 5 minutes before getting changed back.

Attatch a clip to your keys and hang them from your belt loop, put them on and off frequently and your dog will start to ignore the noise as a trigger.

Get ready to go out, leave the door open and walk around the garden (if you have one), if not try something like going to the bathroom. Then come back and do your get home routine, coat off, make a fuss of the dog etc.

Put a single car and house key in your trouser pocket so you can come and go without jangling keys, go out and run the car for 30 seconds but then come straight back in without making a fuss of the dog etc, just ignore it.

There are many more things to try, but the trick is to make all the 'going out' routine, routine.
