Will be testing the water in the new year with mixing my own I prefer the majority of my juice to be vg. I have however bought 54mg nic in a pg base. After my vg and flavouring are added is it likely to still be too thick? I know it can be thinned further with distilled water or vodka. Apart from the extra bite that vodka will give it, does it have any further benefits? Also the distilled water where can you buy it....surely it isn't the same distilled water that you buy in Halfprds for your car battery? Attachments:

Vodka please Oh sorry. Vodka or water is a matter of personal taste from what I've read. A lot of UKV posters said they were happy to use boiled kettle water. Otherwise use Pharma/Food grade Distilled or Deionised water from pharmacies or supermarkets NOT Halfords. Your lungs are fussier than car batteries apparently & the Halfords water may contain bacteria Good luck with your mixing

I use vodka. It adds around the 2% level of ethanol to your final mix and does seem to give it a bit more kick. It also thins the VG more efficiently than water only. Ok, only a very small amount less water but does mean to me the final vape is less steamy. I have a final mix of around 23%PG. I find with no PG the vaper is much lighter and steamier so some is desireable. I now get this from using a PG nico base. Also having some PG seems to make the coils clog up less. The beauty of vodka is you know it is sterile and will remain sterile after opening because of the alcohol. Also you have a supply of vodka which is much better at cleaning wicks and coils then soaking in water. Last bottle I bought was a cheapy in Tesco...imperial No1. 35%. For thinning VG I use 15 vodka/85 VG. I add 3% PG. (only to use what I have left up.)

So I have 54mg pg based nic, vg without nic, 15%flavouring and 15% vodka....is that right

I generally use Vodka as well, for all the most excellent reasons listed by Brambles. Sounds about right to me Padiho . . . .

Hi Padiho, the VG that you bought with your nicotine liquid was aqueous VG, i.e. it has already been diluted by about 10% pharma grade purified water and should, in most cases, be ready to go. The PG from your flavours and the nicotine will further reduce its viscosity once mixed.

Thank you both of you...I think I will go with the vodka as you both know what you are doing. So I have 54mg pg based nic, vg without nic, 15%flavouring and 15% vodka....is that right That would be far too much Vodka, the % you're thinking of (15%) would be 15% of the VG amount to dilute the VG and not 15% of the overall because in that case you're diluting the PG base and the PG based flavouring by 15% too. Just to throw a spanner in the works I prefer distilled water as the Vodka does add a taste, having said that I now make my final mixes to 70/30-PG/VG and find at that ratio there is no need to dilute the VG, if I was going any higher say 50/50 then I would think of diluting it.

So it's just the pg nic, the vg without nic and the flavouring that I need to mix..... Yes, that's what I would do on your first mix, as the VG has already been diluted, to make life easier. Most people dilute pure VG by 10-15% vodka or water, yours has ALREADY been diluted by 10%. I'd try it as is initially. So just Nic, aqueous VG, and flavouring.

I use Postmodern's VG and have never diluted it, never needed to. The VG I bought from Asda on the other hand I dilted with some water from the kettle (had been boiled at least twice and allowed to cool). I'm only making for me and hubby, I wouldn't use kettle water if I was making to sell.

Hi Sarah. The VG from Postmodern Smoking has been diluted with 10% water (i.e. it is already aqueous VG). People tend to dilute between about 10-15% to make VG less viscous for ease of handling and better wicking, so a little bit of vodka shouldn't be disasterous. If you've used a lot of vodka then the amount of vapour produced will probably be reduced.
