Old*Angler from the eBay techie board sent me this. There is no sound until the last moment. It's not a joky thing, I thought it was fascinating and awe-inspiring - the things "we" have achieved www.youtube.com/watch_popup?v=KZrFC988Thcscylla x

Chrissie, the youngsters say "awesome", not us older folks. The same goes for "dude" and "babe", if you get my drift.

I made a digital mode contact with the STS-67 shuttle, back in 1995. I received a very nice card from them.

It's called "packet radio", Paddy. It is a computer, connected to a radio transmitter that sends a text message via an antenna. I was able to contact the shuttle, by having my text message received and confirmed by the shuttle.

I also made a contact with the MIR space station the following year. I had a program on my computer that let me know where they were located in space. I used the 2 meter radio band, because those signals penetrate the atmosphere and go into space. I don't remember where the MIR was when I contacted it, but the shuttle was over Florida.

There are lots of things that can be done in Amateur Radio, Cindy. It's not like CB, you don't just talk on it.
