I want to make up a unit for storing my 510 connections on. I know that the tap size is 7mm by 0.5 pitch but I cannot find a supplier of that size of Tap in the UK. So instead I could buy 510 sockets and just sink these into a block of wood to make an atty/clearo/tank stand.
Does anyone know where I can buy 510 sockets. (The female part of a 510 connection).

Thanks Skwoddy. I have spent 3 nights looking for these. How on earth did you find them so quickly?

Could be but all the 7mm taps I had found were all 0.75 pitch and not the 0.5 ones. USA seems to be the only place that uses 0.5 pitch.
Anyways I have ordered that set.
Thanks again.

Youre welcome, hope they come in handy, think youll need the 'bottom Tap' of the three, unless your going to do a 'through hole' where the Taper tap will be easier to start.

Yes Skwoddy, I realise that.
It will depend on what I can "scrounge" to use for a block. Ideally a 1/4 inch thick bit of aluminium would be the easiest to work with. Also I would probably just "go right through" in that if I then lay the block on some folded kitchen towel, that will soak up any drips from the attys.

Thanks Skwoddy. If I can't find anything suitable in the scrap part of my local engineering works, I will contact this firm and get them to cut and send what I need.

Thanks Dave. Id the Alloy Bar and tap set don't work, I will go down this route. I just hate rumaging through my box of attys. They would look so much better all standing in rows. Easier to recoile and wick if screwed to a flat base too.

Do you really need it to be threaded..Won't a 7.5-8 mm hole achieve what you want it for, if it is just storage..
Easier to remove and put back too rather than screwing and unscrewing attys.. I would just buy a 15-20 mm mm plate and drillout a 8 mm hole to a depth of roughly 8-10 mm.

I've tried this Macca, but they still get knocked over.
The tanks tend to be okay, but there is not enough depth on the connections of the Buds and Nanos to keep them in place if my present stand gets dunted.
Really this tray is just an excuse for me to disappear to the workshop and get out of doing housework.

Ha ha..
There is a way to prevent them from being knocked over.. Easier to do with wood..If you sink a 5-7 mm deep 16, or 20 or 25mm hole in a block of wood, the wood drill will drill out an approximately 5-7mm hole with it's point in the center..You then open this inside hole out to 8 mm and the atty's will be fine.
You could apply the same principle with metal by sinking using progressively bigger drills so they have a ledge as well as a 8mm hole in the center for the connector, if you get my drift..

This is what I have at present. Wood blocks drilled. However, I am beginning to run out of space and I need to build a more substantial tray that will hold all my rebuildables and 510 attys and leave the tray purely for my clearos only.
