Has anyone had one? How did you find it? We're looking at an 04 - 2.2 desil but worried about reliability.

We have had a Laguna, and a Megan, worst cars we ever had. My friend has just got £400 scrap for her Espace 04 plate as she couldn't afford to do over £2000 worth of work to get it going again However, I shouldn't say these things as my SIL works at a Renault dealership and has just bought an Espace Mind you he has the know how to fix anything himself and can get parts cheap!

We had a Laguna when we first returned from Australia. I got rid of it after 6mths as the cost of doing anything to it was so expensive and it always seemed to have silly little things going wrong that cost the earth to fix. Can't comment on the Espace though

Renault=bag of poo .. Very heavy on juice and always something breaking down .. Electrics particularly
My advice would be to get a vw equivelant pay more initially it worth it in the long run I have worked in the motor trade for 15 years :-)

Totally agree, lovely cars to drive when they're going right. Loads of little thoughtful features, as a woman I totally love the way Renault make use of the interior space, but would never have another one. We traded the Megan in at another dealership, they had to send it to the Renault one when they found out all what was needing fixed as they didn't have the expertise to fix it So if you want something that you can get repaired cheaply at a local independent garage steer well clear

I have a tiny Clio and that is great but I think the bigger they get the worse they get, my sister had a Megane , always needed something doing to it

I have an espace. its a 2002 mk3 . it's done 90,000 and never had any major issues with it, but it's constantly in need of minor fixes and even the minor ones are bloomin expensive. the worst thing on mine is the damn sto0pid hydraulic clutch pedal. On the renault forums : www.renaultforums.co.uk/index.php you'll find lots of people who wouldn't buy Renault again..me included.

We love our Skodas, we're on our 2nd Octavia 1.9 TDI, solid as a rock, proper workhorses, easy to get parts for from the scrappies (most Passat parts fit). Our old one did 140000 miles before we tearfully traded it in! Mr K recently got a Fabia VRSi, he's very impressed indeed with that, but seems to prefer my tank in the snow

We had a Megane Scenic 1.9DCI, and although we got quite a few miles out of it, I was never that impressed when I drove it (it was primarily my wife's car, as I am fortunate to get lease cars from work). My current is a Skoda 1.9TDI Octavia estate, and it's the dog's danglies! Great workhorse, 50mpg even around the Cornish lanes, and much more on a long journey into England! The specification is fantastic - cruise control, climate a/c, electric everything, and loads of boot room, even without folding down the rear seats, which gives even more. Feels VW solid, and if you 'pop the hood' everything's marked VAG (Volkswagen Audi Group) - say no more! OTR price is currently about £18K NEW, and mine's the 'Elegance' model, so not the base model. And no, I don't work for Skoda!!! Hope this helps! Andy
ETA:- I should add that on our first foreign trip to France with the car, the turbo failed. In a poky small town garage, the dealer took the car's details, hit enter on the most oil-stained computer keyboard I have ever seen, and lo and behold, on the Postit-encrusted monitor screen, up popped all the details of our own car, including parts numbers and the date we bought it secondhand! The new turbo was ordered and 4 days later they fixed it in time for us to get to the return ferry home. Just a shame they don't make decent cars in the first place - as mentioned above, the use of space is very creative, but the electrics are and I suspect always will be the bugbear. A

The smaller manufacturers are really pulling their collective fingers out these days - a mate of mine has a Kia Cee'd diesel estate, and he really rates it! I certainly would consider a less well-known make in the future, and would steer clear of main dealers for servicing - they charge the earth. Andy

It's an Octavia estate I have Andy, I just loves it! Not as high spec as yours, but I don't need that. Mine is an 04, bout 90000 on the clock now. Any bits needing replaced comes from the scrap yard, great mileage! I don't do a lot of miles in it now and people ask me why I don't get a smaller car, no point, the Octavia is so cheap to run and maintain and there's loads of room for dogs, shopping, kids. and it's built like a tank which is handy when you're challenged parking etc Mr K did wonder why I had foliage all stuck over the exhaust etc the other week. I told him it was seasonal :-[ It would take a lot to do real damage to this car
